Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are recommended to treat patients with deficient mismatch repair/microsatellite instability high (dMMR/MSI-H) metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). Pivotal trials have fixed a maximum ICI duration of 2 years, without a compelling rationale. A shorter treatment duration has the potential to improve patients' quality of life and reduce both toxicity and cost without compromising efficacy.

Article Synopsis
  • Left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) are commonly used to treat advanced heart failure, improving survival but leading to high rates of arrhythmias (20-50%) within a year after implantation.
  • Arrhythmias in these patients increase the risk of complications, such as additional shocks from implantable defibrillators and potential worsening of right ventricular failure, highlighting the need for tailored management strategies.
  • Effective treatment for these arrhythmias may involve specialized approaches like catheter ablation, though unique challenges exist in accessing arrhythmogenic areas after LVAD surgery, making pre-implantation procedures potentially beneficial.

  • The study looked at why people with systemic sclerosis often get painful sores on their fingers (called digital ulcers) and how tiny blood vessel problems contribute to this.
  • Researchers measured blood pressure in the fingers of patients to find out if there was a link between lower pressure and the presence of these sores.
  • The results showed that a lot of people with ulcers had lower blood pressure in their fingers, suggesting that these blood flow issues play a big role in causing ulcers, separate from other blood vessel problems.

Identification of Prominin-2 as a new player of cardiomyocyte senescence in the aging heart.

Aging Cell

September 2024

Institute of Metabolic and Cardiovascular Diseases (I2MC), UMR-1297 INSERM, University of Toulouse, Toulouse, France.

The aging heart is characterized by a number of structural changes leading to ventricular stiffness, impaired resistance to stress and increased risk of developing heart failure (HF). Genetic or pharmacological removal of senescent cells has recently demonstrated the possibility to relieve some cardiac aging features such as hypertrophy and fibrosis. However, the contribution of the different cell types in cardiac aging remains fragmentary due to a lack of cell-specific markers.
