Background And Objective: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common condition, featured by repetitive upper airway collapse during sleep manifested with poor quality of life and co-morbidities. Although continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the recommended therapy, lack of patient compliance and persistent symptoms often preclude its success. The present study evaluates the effect of acetazolamide in combination with CPAP, and compares this treatment strategy to single therapy using CPAP in moderate to severe OSA.

The genesis of both osteoporosis and sarcopenia is multifactorial, complicated, and interrelated. The present study has been undertaken to analyze the prevalence of low bone mineral density (BMD) and the pattern of imaging markers of sarcopenia (paraspinal skeletal muscle area [SMA] and skeletal muscle index [SMI] with respect to clinicodemographic profile in middle-aged patients (30-45 years) undergoing evaluation for low back pain (LBP).  Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the lumbosacral spine and/or sacroiliac joints was done on 3T MRI.

  • The study aimed to assess kidney perfusion after renal transplant using near-infrared spectroscopy, helping identify early graft dysfunction for better graft survival.
  • It involved patients aged 18 to 65, continuously monitoring regional saturation while recording urine output and serum creatinine levels post-surgery.
  • Results showed significant negative correlations between regional saturation with both serum creatinine and urine output, indicating near-infrared spectroscopy could be an effective tool for real-time kidney function monitoring after transplant.

  • This study investigates how temperature and duration of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) affect cerebral oxygen saturation during open-heart surgeries and links it to neurological outcomes.
  • It involved 60 patients aged 18-60, using near-infrared spectroscopy to monitor cerebral saturation and assessing cognitive function and neurological status post-surgery.
  • Results showed that longer CPB duration correlated with lower cerebral saturation, and lower saturation was linked to early cognitive decline, although its effect on later cognitive issues remains uncertain.
