Radical prostatectomy (RP) is one of the primary treatment options for localised prostate cancer (PCa). Despite its curative intent, 1/3 of patients will experience biochemical recurrence (BCR) during follow-up. Experts have devoted efforts to associate the influence of each individual factor with the risk of BCR to select the optimal treatment for each patient.

Justification: Providing care to patients with several conditions and simultaneously taking several medications at home is inexorably growing in developed countries. This trend increases the chances of home caregivers experiencing diverse errors related with medication or care.

Objective: To determine the effectiveness of four different educational solutions compared to the natural intervention (absence of intervention) to provide a safer care at home by caregivers.

Rheumatoid meningitis (RM) is a rare complication of rheumatoid arthritis that can manifest as stroke-like episodes. We present the case of a 63-year-old woman with a past history of overlap syndrome and clinical manifestations suggestive of amyopathic dermatomyositis, rheumatoid arthritis, and systemic lupus erythematosus. She presented to the emergency department with sudden onset right-sided clumsiness and numbness, as well as a 2-week history of left hemicranial headache.

Lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma (LPL) and marginal zone lymphoma (MZL) frequently infiltrate the bone marrow with similar histologic and immunohistochemical characteristics posing diagnostic problems. Bone marrow biopsy specimens from 25 LPL and 16 MZL have been studied, correlating with clinical, laboratory parameters and the MYD88_p.L265P mutation.

Proliferative fasciitis (PF) is a benign fibroblastic reaction with histological and clinical characteristics that overlap with those of malignant soft tissue tumors; thus, it is referred to as a pseudosarcomatous reaction. It continues to be an important cause of diagnostic error and overtreatment. The childhood PF subtype has some distinct histological and immunohistochemical characteristics that make differential diagnosis with malignant tumors even harder, especially with sarcoma.

Compassionate use of remdesivir in children with COVID-19.

Eur J Pediatr

April 2021

Paediatric Infectious Diseases Department, Translational Research Network in Paediatric Infectious Diseases (RITIP), La Paz University Hospital, Paseo de la Castellana 261, 28046, Madrid, Spain.

Article Synopsis
  • A multicenter observational study in Spain examined the use of Remdesivir (RDV) for treating severe COVID-19 in children, involving eight pediatric patients, half with complex medical conditions.
  • Most patients showed successful clinical outcomes without RDV-related side effects, but one child died due to late treatment.
  • The findings emphasize the need for clinical trials to evaluate RDV's safety and effectiveness in children, as it has shown promise in adult treatments.

Purpose: To assess the incidence of postoperative masticatory oscillopsia after orbital decompression, comparing results between isolated lateral wall and balanced or 3-wall orbital decompression.

Methods: An observational retrospective study was performed, involving 161 consecutive patients who underwent orbital decompression between 2008 and 2018. Patients' clinical data were registered, and archives were revised for data compilation.

Mobile Genetic Elements (MGE) play essential roles in adaptive bacterial evolution, facilitating genetic exchange for extrachromosomal DNA, especially antibiotic resistance genes and virulence factors. For this reason, high-throughput next-generation sequencing of bacteria is of great relevance, especially for clinical pathogenic bacteria. Accurate identification of MGE from whole-genome sequencing (WGS) datasets is one of the major challenges, still hindered by methodological limitations and high sequencing costs.

Purpose: To describe the authors' modified combined surgical technique for external dacryocystorhinostomy and transnasal canthopexy.

Methods: A retrospective medical record review was performed including patients with late posttraumatic telecanthus and nasolacrimal duct obstruction treated by their combined dacryocystorhinostomy-transnasal canthopexy technique. In this technique, the bony window is extended superiorly and posteriorly further than in standard dacryocystorhinostomy, to allow pulling the canthus though the window, but at the same time not disturbing the suture of the dacryocystorhinostomy anastomosis.

Electronic address:

Rotavirus is not included in the Spanish mass infant vaccination schedule but has also not been economically evaluated for its inclusion. We analysed cost-utility of the universal infant rotavirus vaccination using RotaTeq® versus no vaccination in Spain. We also carried out a budget impact analysis and determined the effect on results of different variables introduced in the model.
