Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) is a clinical syndrome that can result from acute and chronic liver disorders, such as hepatitis, liver failure caused by alcohol or drugs, autoimmune diseases, metabolic diseases, cirrhosis, different types of tumors, and infections. This study aimed to investigate the effects of different doses of Beta-myrcene (β-myrcene) on the improvement of HE caused by thioacetamide (TAC) in male rats. To induce liver failure and acute damage in the studied animals, TAC was administered to rats at a dose of 100 mg/kg of body weight through an intraperitoneal (IP) injection with 24-hour intervals for seven consecutive days.

Imaging in atypical van der knaap disease with subependymal nodular heterotopia: A case report.

Radiol Case Rep

February 2025

Junior Resident, Department of Radiodiagnosis, Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital and Research Centre, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, 560004, Karnataka, India.

Here, we discuss a rare and to our knowledge, the first case of an atypical Van der Knaap's disease in a 6-year-old boy who presented with motor difficulties, developmental delay, cognitive impairment, seizures. The objective of this report is to highlight its unusual findings on MRI including internal capsule, brainstem, cerebellum involvement; subependymal nodular heterotopia, subependymal cysts, cortical laminar necrosis along with typical findings of megalencephalic leukoencephalopathy and subcortical cysts. The study also underscores the clinical implications of this complex pathology, with emphasis on comprehensive neuroradiological evaluation for atypical presentations to guide better diagnostic and management outcomes.

Background: Temporary pacemaker lead implantation is a common low-risk procedure, but can occasionally get complicated by infections, arrhythmias, thromboembolic events, and perforation of the vessel or the heart. However, intracardiac knotting of the temporary pacemaker lead has been rarely reported. This could lead to vascular or valvular injury, pneumothorax, symptomatic loss of pacing or haemodynamic compromise, and difficult lead removal.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder, with its prevalence doubling approximately every decade. It is a significant contributor to disability-adjusted life-years in individuals aged 50 and older, impacting a substantial portion of this population globally. The pathophysiology of AD is primarily explained by two hypotheses: the amyloid cascade hypothesis and the tau hypothesis.

Imaging in Zinner Syndrome, A Case Series: The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing.

Urol Case Rep

January 2025

Department of Radiodiagnosis, Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital and Research Centre, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, Karnataka, 560004, India.

Zinner syndrome is a rare congenital malformation of the Wolffian duct with seminal vesicle cyst, ipsilateral renal agenesis and ejaculatory duct obstruction, seen in less than 0.002 % of the male population. An increased awareness among clinicians, urologists, and radiologists is essential, as early diagnosis and management can impact fertility outcomes.

One of the biggest challenges of today's society is cancer, which imposes a significant financial, emotional and spiritual burden on human life. Breast cancer (BC) is one of the most common cancers that affects people in society, especially women, and due to advanced treatment strategies and primary prevention, it is still the second cause of cancer-related deaths in society. Various genetic and environmental factors are involved in the development of BC.

Heart transplantation is a vital procedure for patients with end-stage heart failure, but it faces significant challenges, including graft dysfunction, rejection, and cardiac allograft vasculopathy (CAV), which can compromise long-term graft success. Research suggests that statin therapy may offer significant benefits to heart transplant recipients, such as improved long-term survival and reduced rates of graft rejection and mortality. The aim of this review is to thoroughly examine the recent literature on this topic since 2005.

Background: Remedial teaching is a tailored educational approach dedicated to enhancing the academic performance of students facing challenges within the curriculum. By identifying and addressing specific learning difficulties, it provides essential support and guidance to bring students closer to expected standards while preventing future setbacks. We hypothesize that underperforming medical students who receive daily, tailored remediation will demonstrate significant improvement in their formative and summative assessment scores in biochemistry.

Unlabelled: Introduction: Tonsillectomy is commonly associated with significant postoperative challenges such as pain management, complication monitoring, and patient recovery. Traditional care methods, while effective, often do not adequately address these issues, particularly in personalized care and remote monitoring. This study assesses the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-assisted postoperative care on recovery outcomes in tonsillectomy patients compared to conventional care methods.

Introduction: The survival rates of breast cancer patients have improved drastically in the past few decades due to advancements in anti-neoplastic drugs. Trastuzumab (TZ) chemotherapy is associated with left ventricular dysfunction leading to cardiotoxicity. Two-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography has demonstrated efficacy in predicting TZ-induced cardiotoxicity; however, its role in using right ventricular (RV) strain parameters remains unclear.

A Feature-Fusion Technique-Based Alzheimer's Disease Classification Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Diagnostics (Basel)

October 2024

Department of Biochemistry, S S Hospital, S S Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Davangere 577005, India.

Background: Early identification of Alzheimer's disease (AD) is essential for optimal treatment and management. Deep learning (DL) technologies, including convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and vision transformers (ViTs) can provide promising outcomes in AD diagnosis. However, these technologies lack model interpretability and demand substantial computational resources, causing challenges in the resource-constrained environment.

In low-dimensional material systems, augmented physical and chemical properties may be witnessed through a unique morphological evolution. Here, we report the development of an optimized nanowall network of ZnO for the fabrication of a flexible single-electrode triboelectric nanogenerator (STENG)-based tactile and gesture sensors. The chemically grown nanowall network with an adequate pore area endows superior triboelectric output (current ∼0.

The physicochemical properties of manganese oxides and their different applications mainly depend upon their crystallite size, morphology, phase structure, and surface properties, which are again dependent on the preparation methods. So, a simple, cost-effective, and versatile synthesis method for such materials is highly desirable. Intending to accomplish this, herein we report the synthesis of MnO nanostructures by alkaline hydrolysis of the corresponding metal ions in an aqueous medium.

Hepatitis C, caused by the hepatitis C virus (HCV), is a prevalent liver disease with severe outcomes, including cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Traditional diagnostic methods primarily detect antiviral antibodies (anti-HCV) or viral RNA, but these approaches have limitations. Anti-HCV antibodies may take 2-4 weeks to develop in acute cases and can be absent in some individuals, leading to undiagnosed early-stage infections.
