Electronic address:

Anaerobically-treated palm oil mill effluent (POME) still has unacceptable properties for water recycling and reuse, with an unpleasant appearance due to the brownish color caused by tannins and phenolic compounds. This study proposes an approach for treating anaerobically-treated POME for water recycling by combining organic precipitation, electrocoagulation (EC), and ion-exchange resin, followed by reverse osmosis (RO) membrane filtration in series. The results indicated that the organic precipitation enhanced the efficiency of EC treatment in reducing the concentrations of tannins, color, and chemical oxygen demand (COD) of the anaerobically-treated POME effluent, with reductions of 95.

Effects of expanded graphite's structural and elemental characteristics on its oil and heavy metal sorption properties.

Sci Rep

June 2024

Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Humanities and Pedagogy, Technická Univerzita v Liberci, 460 01, Liberec, Czech Republic.

Expanded graphite has promising potential environmental applications due to its porous structure and oleophilic nature, which allow it to absorb large quantities of oil. The material is produced by intercalating graphite and applying heat to convert the intercalant into gas to cause expansion between the layers in the graphite. Using different intercalants and temperature conditions results in varying properties of expanded graphite.

Thermoplastic pultrusion is a suitable process for fabricating continuous unidirectional thermoplastics with a uniform cross-section, high mechanical properties due to continuous fiber reinforcement, low cost, and suitability for mass production. In this paper, jute and glass fibers were reinforced with a polypropylene matrix and fabricated using the thermoplastic pultrusion process. The volumetric fraction of the composite was designed by controlling the filling ratio of the reinforcing fiber and matrix.

September 2023

Resource Recovery Research Group (Re3G), Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel 45200, Nepal. Electronic address:

Landfill leachate (LL) management is an urgent issue at recently closed Sisdol Landfill Site (SLS) used to dispose of solid waste generated in Kathmandu (Nepal) as untreated leachate is flowing directly to the nearby Kolpu River causing environmental and health concerns. This study aims to assess the potential of algae-based treatment of LL pretreated by optimized coagulation-flocculation (CF) for the removal of conventional pollutants such as biological oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), ammonia, nitrate, and phosphate. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was used to optimize the operating variables (dose and pH) during the pretreatment of leachate by the CF process using ferric chloride (FeCl.

This article explores the analysis of magnetized blood-based nanofluids flows over an extending cylinder. The nanofluid contains copper, copper oxide and iron oxide nanoparticles which are mixed with blood. The mathematical model has been built-up in partial differential equations (PDEs) form and then changed into ordinary different equations by mean of suitable similarity variables and then has been evaluated by homotopy analysis method (HAM).

The highly acid sulfate Rangsit soil series of Rangsit, Pathum-Thani district, Thailand poses a major problem for agriculture in the area. Water hyacinth is a naturally occurring weed that can grow aggressively, causing eutrophication and leading to many severe environmental impacts. Here, through the pyrolysis process, we convert water hyacinth to biochar and use it for acid soil amendment.
