2,4-D dimethylammonium, a widely used herbicide, accumulates in aquatic animals, posing risks to both their populations and human consumers. This study evaluated the effects of 2,4-D on Riceland prawn (Macrobrachium lanchesteri) using Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) to assess morphological changes. The activity of acetylcholinesterase (AChE), catalase (CAT), and glutathione S-transferase (GST) was also measured.

Temperature and Preparation Time Intervals on Survival of Metacercariae in Pickled Fish (Pla-som).

Int J Food Sci

November 2024

Health Science Program, Faculty of Science and Technology, Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University, Sakon Nakhon 47000, Thailand.

This study involved two series of independent trials that investigated the storage temperature and time of raw fish to eliminate metacercarial infection in Thai pickled fish. A total of 330 healthy silver barb fishes (30-day posthatch) were infected with cercariae at an inoculation ratio of 50 cercariae/fish. After infection, the fish was reared for 3 months.

Cyprinid fishes are commonly acted as second intermediate hosts of and spp. This research investigated the prevalence and intensity of both parasites in cyprinid species. This process is regularly used as a guideline for disease surveillance and as a preventive measure in the Upper Northeastern region of Thailand.

Purpose: Pediculosis capitis, commonly known as head lice infestation, represents a significant health 26 problem for school children worldwide. Repeated and long-term usages of highly toxic pediculicides have resulted in the development of increased levels of resistance and do not kill louse eggs. Alternative pediculicides, such as herbal products, have recently been proposed for the treatment of head lice infestation, thereby decreasing toxicity.

Background And Aim: The risk factors for cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) are opisthorchiasis and the intake of a combination of nitroso compounds through the consumption of traditionally fermented fish, which is very popular in areas where liver flukes are endemic. The incidence of CCA remains high because this cultural habit of rural people has been altered. Therefore, decreasing nitrate and nitrite concentrations in fermented fish are an alternative approach to reducing the risk of CCA.

The plasmonic antenna probe is constructed using a silver rod embedded in a modified Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) ad-drop filter. Rabi antennas are formed when space-time control reaches two levels of system oscillation and can be used as human brain sensor probes. Photonic neural networks are designed using brain-Rabi antenna communication, and transmissions are connected via neurons.

Intestinal parasitic infections are still a crucial problem among communities in Northeast Thailand. Misuse of antiparasitic drugs and unhealthy food behaviors are known. This study aimed to explore the prevalence, behavioral health factors, and motivation for self-treatment of anti-parasitic drugs in this area.

Background And Aim: Canine demodicosis is a skin disease that is a major global health problem in dogs. Ivermectin is a drug of choice for treatment, but it may cause toxicity in dogs carrying multidrug resistance mutation-1 gene mutations. Hence, alternative herbal medicines are used instead of the drug, such as oil (YN oil), leaf (WC), and pericarps (MG) extracts.

Acetaminophen Overdose Enhances Early Cholangiocarcinoma in Opisthorchiasis Hamsters.

Asian Pac J Cancer Prev

December 2021

Program in Animal Science, Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University, Sakon Nakhon, 47000, Thailand.

Article Synopsis
  • Opisthorchiasis, caused by the liver fluke Opisthorchis viverrini and linked to cholangiocarcinoma (CCA), is prevalent in northeastern Thailand due to raw fish consumption and acetaminophen use for pain relief.
  • The study tested four groups of hamsters to understand acetaminophen's impact on opisthorchiasis over one month, analyzing histopathological changes and liver function.
  • Results showed that hamsters in the combination group (OV-Ac) exhibited greater CCA risk and liver damage compared to the other groups, indicating that combining liver fluke infection with acetaminophen worsens CCA severity.

Chitosan or polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) were used in combination with hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) and poloxamer 407 (P407) as gelling agents for oral drug delivery. The performance interaction with mucin of chitosan-composed gel (F1) and PVP-composed gel (F2) was compared using attenuated total reflectance-Fourier-transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy at controlled temperatures of 25 and 37 °C for 1 and 5 min. F1 containing niosome-entrapped melatonin or its derivatives was investigated for mucoadhesive interaction on mucosa by ATR-FTIR spectroscopy under the same conditions.
