Due to hormonal variations, heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) remains prevalent in women and affects almost half of the heart failure (HF) patients. Given the yearly death rate of 10-30% and the unavailability of medications targeting HFpEF, the need arises for a better understanding of the fundamental mechanisms of this syndrome. This comprehensive review explores sex-specific differences in traditional risk factors; female-specific factors that may impact HFpEF development and response to therapy, including variations in hormone levels that may occur pre- and post-menopausal or during pregnancy; and disparities in comorbidities, clinical presentation, and diagnostic challenges.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is an aggressive tumor, and even with the breakthrough in preventive strategies, and new diagnostic and treatment modalities, incidence and fatality rates continue to climb. Patients with HCC are most commonly diagnosed in the later stage, where the disease has already advanced, making it impossible to undertake potentially curative surgery. Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is a locoregional therapy regarded as a first-line treatment in patients with intermediate-stage HCC (Barcelona clinical liver cancer {BCLC}-B).

Introduction: Growing evidence has shown that cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), an enzyme capable of catalyzing prostaglandin production, plays a key role in carcinogenesis. Selective COX-2 inhibitors have been shown to reduce the establishment of tumors such as oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and premalignant conditions such oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) in experimental models. The aim of this study was to investigate the immunohistochemical expression of COX-2 in OSCC and OSMF with the normal oral mucosa as control.
