Prolonged survival with maintenance pemetrexed for a multiple primary malignancy.

BMJ Support Palliat Care

March 2019

Square Oncology and Radiotherapy Centre, Square Hospitals, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Despite the fact that multiple primary malignancies (MPMs) are not new and have been diagnosed for about a hundred-year time, literatures on lung and colon primaries are scarce. We report a case of a 62-year-old Asian Bangladeshi man with stage IV lung adenocarcinoma who developed a metachronous stage II colon adenocarcinoma approximately 3 years later. A chemotherapy protocol of six cycles of pemetrexed/cisplatin followed by maintenance pemetrexed was used, and surgery was done for the colon primary.

Background And Purpose: Quality indicators (QIs) have been developed for many aspects of prostate cancer care, but are under-developed with regard to radiotherapy treatment. We aimed to develop a valid, relevant and feasible set of core QIs to measure quality of radiotherapy care in men with prostate cancer.

Materials And Methods: We used a RAND-modified Delphi process to select QIs that were regarded as both important and feasible measures of quality radiotherapy care.

Prostate cancer mortality in the Caribbean region is among the highest in the world and prostate cancer is the most common cancer in Trinidad and Tobago. There is a two-tiered healthcare system in Trinidad and Tobago, and prostate cancer related issues account for a significant percentage of urologists' workload. Delivery of care is sometimes constrained by limited financial resources.

Alanine dosimeters are limited in radiotherapy by poor sensitivity at low doses (< 5Gy). A set of alanine dosimeters were 'spiked' with a large dose of radiation, (~30Gy, 6MV X-rays) and additional doses ranging between 0.5 and 10Gy.

Synchrotron microbeam radiation therapy is a promising preclinical radiotherapy modality that has been proposed as an alternative to conventional radiation therapy for diseases such as diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), a devastating pediatric tumor of the brainstem. The primary goal of this study was to characterize and compare the radiosensitivity of two DIPG cell lines (SF7761 and JHH-DIPG-1) to microbeam and conventional radiation. We hypothesized that these DIPG cell lines would exhibit differential responses to each radiation modality.

Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) is a biochemically-targeted type of radiotherapy, selectively delivering localized dose to tumour cells diffused in normal tissue, while minimizing normal tissue toxicity. BNCT is based on thermal neutron capture by stable [Formula: see text]B nuclei resulting in emission of short-ranged alpha particles and recoil [Formula: see text]Li nuclei. The purpose of the current work was to develop and validate a Monte Carlo BNCT beam model and to investigate contribution of individual dose components resulting of neutron interactions.

Purpose: Globally, prostate cancer treatment and outcomes for men vary according to where they live, their race and the care they receive. The TrueNTH Global Registry project was established as an international registry monitoring care provided to men with localised prostate cancer (CaP).

Participants: Sites with existing CaP databases in Movember fundraising countries were invited to participate in the international registry.

The dosimetric uncertainties associated with radiotherapy through hip prostheses while overriding the implant to a set density within the TPS has not yet been reported. In this study, the uncertainty in dose within a PTV resulting from this planning choice was investigated. A set of metallic hip prosthetics (stainless steel, titanium, and two different Co-Cr-Mo alloys) were CT scanned in a water bath.

Title: Phase II study of celecoxib with docetaxel chemoradiotherapy (CRT) followed by consolidation chemotherapy docetaxel plus cisplatin with maintenance celecoxib in inoperable stage III nonsmall cell lung cancer.

Introduction: Concurrent CRT has been associated with improvement in absolute 5-year survival by 10% and is the standard of care for inoperable stage III nonsmall cell lung cancer. Preclinical evidence suggests that cyclooxygenase-2 inhibition may increase the efficacy of CRT.

Oncological outcomes in an Australian cohort according to the new prostate cancer grading groupings.

BMC Cancer

August 2017

Centre for Population Health Research, Sansom Institute for Health Research, University of South Australia, Adelaide, Australia.

Background: A new 5-tiered grading grouping system has recently been endorsed for reporting of prostate cancer (PCa) grade to better reflect escalating risk of progression and cancer death. While several validations of the new grade groupings have been undertaken, most have involved centralised pathological review by specialist urological pathologists.

Methods: Participants included 4268 men with non-metastatic PCa diagnosed between 2006 and 2013 from the multi-institutional South Australia Prostate Cancer Clinical Outcomes Collaborative registry.

Tools for Predicting Clinical and Patient-reported Outcomes in Prostate Cancer Patients Undergoing Androgen Deprivation Therapy: A Systematic Review of Prognostic Accuracy and Validity.

Clin Genitourin Cancer

December 2017

South Australian Prostate Cancer Clinical Outcomes Collaborative, Adelaide, SA, Australia; Freemasons Foundation Centre for Men's Health, University of Adelaide, Adelaide, SA, Australia; Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer, Adelaide, SA, Australia; Centre for Population Health Research, University of South Australia, Adelaide, SA, Australia; Discipline of Surgery, University of Adelaide, Adelaide, SA, Australia.

Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) can result in a range of adverse symptoms that reduce patients' quality of life. Careful patient counseling on the likely clinical outcomes and adverse effects is therefore vital. The present systematic review was undertaken to identify and characterize all the tools used for the prediction of clinical and patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) in patients with prostate cancer undergoing ADT.
