The impact of different doses of oral iron supplementation during pregnancy: a pilot randomized trial.

Objective: A sub analysis of NCT01439022, aiming to estimate the extent to which two different exercise training protocols (global and handwriting upper limb exercise training) impact reaction time, travel speed, and accuracy in PwPD.

Methods: Seventy PwPD, right-side dominant were randomised 1:1 into two six-month training protocol groups; 35 PwPD performed global exercise training and 35 performed specific training (handwriting upper limb exercise movements).

Background: Intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) is a critical parameter in the care of critically ill patients, as elevated IAP can lead to reduced cardiac output and organ perfusion, potentially resulting in multiple organ dysfunction and failure. It is well known that modifiers play a role in ameliorating or exacerbating disease phenotypes in patients and carriers of recessively inherited disorders such as sickle cell disease and thalassemia. Here, we give an overview of the literature concerning a recently described association in carriers of Loss-of-Function variants with a beta-thalassemia-like phenotype including the characteristic elevated levels of HbA. That acts as modifier in beta-thalassemia carriers became evident from three reported cases in whom combined heterozygosity of and gene variants was observed to resemble a mild beta-thalassemia intermedia phenotype.

(1) Objective: To develop a clinically useful nomogram that may provide a more individualized and accurate estimation of cancer-specific survival (CSS) for patients with clear-cell (CC) metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) treated with nephrectomy and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitor (VEGFR-TKI)-based sequential therapy. (2) Methods: A prospectively maintained database of 145 patients with mRCC treated between 2008 and 2018 was analyzed to predict the CSS of patients receiving sunitinib and second- and third-line therapies according to current standards of practice. A nomogram based on four independent clinical predictors (Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group status, International Metastatic RCC Database Consortium score, the Morphology, Attenuation, Size and Structure criteria and Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors response criteria) was calculated.

Human mutations in neuropeptide Y (NPY) have been linked to high body mass index but not altered dietary patterns. Here we uncover the mechanism by which NPY in sympathetic neurons protects from obesity. Imaging of cleared mouse brown and white adipose tissue (BAT and WAT, respectively) established that NPY sympathetic axons are a smaller subset that mostly maps to the perivasculature; analysis of single-cell RNA sequencing datasets identified mural cells as the main NPY-responsive cells in adipose tissues.

Background: Electroencephalography (EEG) can be used in neonates to measure brain activity changes that are evoked by noxious events, such as clinically required immunisations, cannulation and heel lancing for blood tests. EEG provides an alternative approach to infer pain experience in infants compared with more commonly used behavioural and physiological pain assessments. Establishing the generalisability and construct validity of these measures will help corroborate the use of brain-derived outcomes to evaluate the efficacy of new or existing pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods to treat neonatal pain.

Lipids contribute to hematopoiesis and membrane properties and dynamics; however, little is known about the role of lipids in megakaryopoiesis. Here we show that megakaryocyte progenitors, megakaryocytes and platelets present a unique lipidome progressively enriched in polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA)-containing phospholipids. In vitro, inhibition of both exogenous fatty acid functionalization and uptake as well as de novo lipogenesis impaired megakaryocyte differentiation and proplatelet production.
