Purpose: To provide key pharmacological concepts underlying drug-drug interactions (DDIs), a decision-making framework, and a list of DDIs that should be considered in the context of contemporary acutely ill patients with COVID-19.

Summary: DDIs are frequently encountered in the acutely ill. The implications of DDIs include either increased risk of drug toxicity or decreased effectiveness, which may have severe consequences in the acutely ill due to lower physiological and neurocognitive reserves in these patients.

Invasive fungal infections pose an important threat to public health and are an under-recognized component of antimicrobial resistance, an emerging crisis worldwide. Across a period of profound global environmental change and expanding at-risk populations, human-infecting pathogenic fungi are evolving resistance to all licensed systemic antifungal drugs. In this Review, we highlight the main mechanisms of antifungal resistance and explore the similarities and differences between bacterial and fungal resistance to antimicrobial control.

Over the past 10 years, the number of targeted therapies for haematological malignancies has substantially increased, and many new drugs have entered the market. Many of these therapies have shown improved disease-free survival and reduced toxicity compared with existing treatments, especially in older patients. However, most of these new drugs undergo extensive hepatic metabolism and exhibit moderate to severe drug-drug interactions with triazole antifungal agents, which are essential for the prophylaxis and long-term treatment of invasive fungal infections.

Background: Currently, a PET-CT is used to assess the need for extended field radiotherapy of para-aortic lymph nodes (PALN) in International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage IB2, IIA2-IVA (locally advanced stage) cervical cancer. A small study established a sensitivity and specificity estimate for PALN metastases of 50% (95% CI; 7-93%) and 83% (95% CI; 52-98%), respectively. Surgical staging of PALN may lead to a higher diagnostic accuracy.

Since an overview of cervical cancer HRQoL tools and their validity appears to be lacking, we performed a systematic review on usage of disease specific HRQoL instruments in cervical cancer patients and their psychometric properties to identify the most suitable cervical cancer specific HRQoL tool.

Objective: Recent reviews on the sentinel lymph node (SLN) procedure in cervical cancer have shown that bilateral SLN detection and ultra staging are safe and superior options compared to a unilateral detection, frozen section and H&E analysis. So far, nobody identified a subgroup of patients in whom a SLN procedure may replace pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND).
