The revival of psilocybin in psychopharmacological research heralds a potential paradigm shift for treating mood and anxiety disorders, and other psychiatric conditions beyond the psychotic spectrum. This critical review evaluates current evidence on psilocybin's efficacy, juxtaposing potential benefits with the practical aspects of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy (PAP) and the methodological constraints of existing research. An electronic literature search was conducted using PubMed/MEDLINE, selecting studies published up to December 2023 that explored the clinical use of psilocybin in mood and anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and substance use disorder.

Objectives: We determined whether adding cannabis to oxycodone for chronic non-cancer pain management could reduce treatment-related adverse effects (AEs) while maintaining effective analgesia.
Methods: In this open-label study, fibromyalgia patients aged ≥18 years were randomized to receive 5 mg oxycodone tablets (max. four times/day), 150 mg of inhaled cannabis containing 6.

Background: The BACTEC Mycobacteria Growth Indicator Tube (MGIT) machine is the standard globally for detecting viable mycobacteria in patients' sputum. Samples are observed for no longer than 42 days, at which point the sample is declared 'negative' for tuberculosis (TB). This time to detection of bacterial growth, referred to as time-to-positivity (TTP), is increasingly of interest, not solely as a diagnostic tool but also as a continuous biomarker wherein change in TTP can be used for comparing the bactericidal activity of different TB treatments.

Background: Adequate pain relief, early restoration of breathing, and rapid mobilization pose a clinical challenge in patients with blunt chest trauma. Virtual reality (VR) has the potential to achieve these 3 interrelated treatment objectives with enhanced self-efficacy and autonomy of patients and limited support by clinicians.
Objective: This study aimed to assess the effectivity of breathing and physical exercises using VR on the pulmonary recovery of patients with blunt chest trauma at the ward.

Introduction: As breast cancer survival rates improve, the long-term quality of life (QoL) has become increasingly important. With a significant number of patients still undergoing mastectomy and experiencing its well-known negative impacts on QoL, breast reconstruction aims to mitigate this by restoring body integrity. This study aimed to evaluate the changes in QoL and satisfaction in patients after breast reconstruction and influence of various patient-related factors.

Background: The nursing work environment is crucial for nurses' well-being and patients' quality of care. Despite effective interventions to improve the nursing work environment, understanding the most effective types and integration mechanisms for nurses remain challenging. As nursing practices evolve amid complex care demands and staff shortages, understanding nurses' challenges, support systems, and adoption mechanisms is vital to optimize the work environment and to enhance quality of care, job satisfaction, and staff retention.

Background: White matter hyperintensities (WMHs) are established structural imaging markers of cerebral small vessel disease. The pathophysiologic condition of brain tissue varies over the core, the vicinity, and the subtypes of WMH and cannot be interpreted from conventional magnetic resonance imaging. We aim to improve our pathophysiologic understanding of WMHs and the adjacently injured normal-appearing white matter in terms of microstructural and microvascular alterations using quantitative magnetic resonance imaging in patients with sporadic and genetic cerebral small vessel disease.

Chronic pancreatitis is a progressive fibroinflammatory disease primarily caused by a complex interplay of environmental and genetic risk factors. It might result in pancreatic exocrine and endocrine insufficiency, chronic pain, reduced quality of life, and increased mortality. The diagnosis is based on the presence of typical symptoms and multiple morphological manifestations of the pancreas, including pancreatic duct stones and strictures, parenchymal calcifications, and pseudocysts.

In this study, we introduce a denoising method aimed at improving the contrast ratio in low-field MRI (LFMRI) using an advanced 3D deep convolutional residual network model. Our approach employs synthetic brain imaging datasets that closely mimic the contrast and noise characteristics of LFMRI scans, addressing the limitation of available in-vivo LFMRI datasets for training deep learning models. In the simulation data, the Relative Contrast Ratio (RCR) increased, and similar improvements were observed in the in-vivo data across different imaging conditions.

Emergence of azole-resistant Aspergillus fumigatus represents a concern for public health worldwide. Here we applied a spatial analysis to a large number of records on A. fumigatus azole resistance in the Netherlands to evaluate the relationship of a set of environmental factors with the emergence of resistant isolates and to identify the potential risk areas.

Hormone-related venous thromboembolism (VTE) is common and entails scenarios in which VTE occurs during exposure to exogenous or endogenous female sex hormones, typically estrogen and progestogen. For the management of hormone-related VTE, it is important to realize that many patients use these hormones for a vital purpose often strongly related to the patient's well-being and quality of life. In this review we discuss clinical cases of VTE related to hormonal contraceptive use and pregnancy to illustrate key considerations for clinical practice.

Purpose: Radiolabelled minigastrin (MG) analogues targeting the cholecystokinin-2 receptor (CCK2R) have proven to be a promising approach for peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT). In this study, we report on the radiopharmaceutical development and standardization of the preparation of [Lu]Lu-DOTA-MGS5 using an automated synthesis module. Furthermore, we present the preclinical tests required to move forward towards a first therapeutic clinical trial as well as preliminary clinical dosimetry data.

Iron homoeostasis is tightly regulated, with hepcidin and soluble transferrin receptor (sTfR) playing significant roles. However, the genetic determinants of these traits and the biomedical consequences of iron homoeostasis variation are unclear. In a meta-analysis of 12 cohorts involving 91,675 participants, we found 43 genomic loci associated with either hepcidin or sTfR concentration, of which 15 previously unreported.

Evidence suggests a worse clinical course in women compared to men with bipolar disorder. However, little research has explored gender differences in the efficacy of anti-manic medication. We sought to determine whether there are gender differences in efficacy of drug treatment in acute manic episodes of bipolar I disorder, and the influence of dichotomized age as a proxy for menopausal status and baseline severity on gender differences.

Deficits in social cognition may impair emotional processing and facial emotional recognition (FER) in patients with bipolar disorder (BD) and schizophrenia. FER is generally explored using photographs or images of static faces that do not fully capture the complexity of real-life facial stimuli. To overcome this limitation, we developed a set of dynamic virtual faces depicting six basic emotions (i.
