Use of Aromatase Inhibitors in IVF for Fertility Preservation of Non-Breast Cancer Patients: A Case Series.

Isr Med Assoc J

March 2018

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Davidoff Center, Rabin Medical Center (Beilinson Campus), Petah Tikva, associated with Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Israel.

Background: Controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH) followed by oocyte retrieval is a leading option for fertility preservation before chemotherapy, yet this procedure causes excessive serum levels of estradiol (E2), which are often detrimental for cancer patients. Aromatase inhibitors are often used in breast cancer patients during COH to prevent elevated levels of E2.

Objectives: To describe our experience with COH for oocyte cryopreservation in non-breast cancer patients using aromatase inhibitors.

Background And Purpose: Although mechanical thrombectomy (MT) appears to be superior in stroke patients with extracranial carotid disease (ECD) compared to thrombolysis alone, the impact of emergent carotid stenting during MT remains unclear. The MT outcomes were assessed in anterior stroke patients with ECD, especially when combined with carotid stenting.

Methods: A retrospective analysis of our registry was performed and an update of a systematic review and meta-analysis of MT studies with or without stenting for anterior circulation stroke with ECD published between November 2010 and April 2017 was conducted.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to determine if NETosis (a process where neutrophils expel DNA traps) plays a role in ocular inflammation caused by cytokines and to assess NET complexes in patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR).
  • In experiments with mice, injections of IL-8 or TNF-α led to a significant increase in inflammatory cells and NET-like structures containing several markers, indicating active NETosis.
  • Analysis of vitreous samples revealed that patients with severe PDR had higher levels of key inflammatory markers compared to those with milder cases, suggesting a correlation between NET formation and disease severity.

Article Synopsis
  • - Proteinuria and albuminuria are crucial indicators of kidney health and can help assess the risk of cardiovascular issues in both diabetic and non-diabetic individuals.
  • - A study analyzing 245 diabetic patients revealed a significant linear correlation between proteinuria levels between 162-300 mg/24 hours and albuminuria, with a new cutoff established at 160.5 mg/24 hours for abnormal proteinuria.
  • - Findings suggest that while proteinuria below 300 mg/24 hours is important, it shouldn't be the only predictor for kidney failure, as changes in creatinine clearance were only linked to albuminuria levels.

Insights from 2D and 3D Quantitative Angiographic Assessment of Bioresorbable Everolimus-Eluting Vascular Scaffolds.

Isr Med Assoc J

July 2016

Department of Cardiology, Rabin Medical Center (Beilinson Campus), Petah Tikva, affiliated with Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Israel.

Background: Bioresorbable vascular scaffold (BVS) is a promising technology that potentially offers several advantages over contemporary coronary drug-eluting stents (DES). Crucial to BVS implantation is the correct choice of scaffold size (diameter and length) in order to avoid "geographic miss" in length, provide the maximal support to the vessel wall, and avoid leaving "free-floating" foreign material in the coronary vasculature.

Objectives: To assess the optimal method for measuring coronary stenosis prior to BVS implantation.
