Acceptor-substituted Ba(Zr,Ce)O proton conducting oxides have attracted significant attention due to their excellent proton conductivity at intermediate temperatures (400-600 °C). A high Zr/Ce ratio is crucial for maintaining stability in humid or other harsh atmospheres. Herein, a systematic study was conducted on the phase composition, microstructure, and the resulting hydration ability and electrochemical performance of high Zr/Ce ratio Ba(Zr,Ce)O solid solutions with different Y substitution levels (10 at% to 30 at%).

Molecular basis of the CYFIP2 and NCKAP1 autism-linked variants in the WAVE regulatory complex.

The WAVE regulatory pentameric complex regulates actin remodeling. Two components of it (CYFIP2 and NCKAP1) are encoded by genes whose genetic mutations increase the risk for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and related neurodevelopmental disorders. Here, we use a newly developed computational protocol and hotspot analysis to uncover the functional impact of these mutations at the interface of the correct isoforms of the two proteins into the complex.

Isatuximab, Lenalidomide, Bortezomib, and Dexamethasone Induction Therapy for Transplant-Eligible Newly Diagnosed Multiple Myeloma: Final Part 1 Analysis of the GMMG-HD7 Trial.

Previously, addition of isatuximab (Isa) to standard-of-care lenalidomide-bortezomib-dexamethasone (RVd) in transplant-eligible patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma in the GMMG-HD7 trial (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT03617731) resulted in a significant increase of minimal residual disease negativity (MRD-) rates after induction therapy. A total of 662 patients were randomly assigned to receive induction therapy with Isa-RVd (n = 331) or RVd (n = 329), followed by single or tandem autologous stem-cell transplant and second random assignment to maintenance with lenalidomide alone or Isa-lenalidomide.

Anxiety in Endometriosis Patients: Implications for Clinical Practice.

Introduction: Endometriosis is a chronic disease associated with pain that affects at least 10% of all women of reproductive age. The symptoms of endometriosis have a negative impact on quality of life; they limit the patient physically and psychologically and are the cause of significant anxiety. The aim of our study was to investigate the anxiety levels of women presenting to our specialized endometriosis outpatient clinic at the RWTH Aachen University Hospital.

Aims: Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) are being tested and accepted as a source for cell therapy worldwide. However, the advanced age of the patients, together with the difficulties in achieving the required cell amounts, impede autologous treatments. Reprogramming of MSCs into induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), followed by re-differentiation to MSCs has emerged as a promising and safe method to facilitate the cell expansion and the removal of aging-associated characteristics.

In this study, we report new occurrences of M. bicolor from Sardinia (Italy) and Bavaria (Germany) based on male material, considerably expanding its known distribution.

Multi-compartment impact of micropollutants and particularly antibiotics on bacterial communities using environmental DNA at river basin-level.

Bacterial communities respond to environmental conditions with diverse structural and functional changes depending on their compartment (water, biofilm or sediment), type of environmental stress, and type of pollution to which they are exposed. In this study, we combined amplicon sequencing of bacterial 16S rRNA genes from water, biofilm, and sediment samples collected in the anthropogenically impacted River Aconcagua basin (Central Chile, South America), in order to evaluate whether micropollutants alter bacterial community structure and functioning based on the type and degree of chemical pollution. Furthermore, we evaluated the potential of bacterial communities from differently polluted sites to degrade contaminants.

Cold acclimation with shivering improves metabolic health in adults with overweight or obesity.

Cold acclimation increases insulin sensitivity, and some level of muscle contraction appears to be needed for provoking this effect. Here 15 men and (postmenopausal) women with overweight or obesity, the majority of whom had impaired glucose tolerance, were intermittently exposed to cold to induce 1 h of shivering per day over 10 days. We determined the effect of cold acclimation with shivering on overnight fasted oral glucose tolerance (primary outcome) and on skeletal muscle glucose transporter 4 translocation (secondary outcome).

Monitoring individualized glucose levels predicts risk for bradycardia in type 2 diabetes patients with chronic kidney disease: a pilot study.

Patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) exhibit an elevated risk for cardiac arrhythmias, such as bradycardia, which may potentially lead to sudden cardiac death (SCD). While hypoglycemia, defined as a critical drop in glucose levels below the normal range, has long been associated with adverse cardiovascular events, recent studies have highlighted the need for a comprehensive reevaluation of its direct impact on cardiovascular outcomes, particularly in high-risk populations such as those with DM and CKD. In this study, we investigated the association between glucose levels and bradycardia by simultaneously monitoring interstitial glucose (IG) and ECG for 7 days in insulin-treated patients with DM and CKD.

Single cell RNA sequencing has provided unprecedented insights into the molecular cues and cellular heterogeneity underlying human disease. However, the high costs and complexity of single cell methods remain a major obstacle for generating large-scale human cohorts. Here, we compare current state-of-the-art single cell multiplexing technologies, and provide a widely applicable demultiplexing method, SoupLadle, that enables simple, yet robust high-throughput multiplexing leveraging genetic variability of patients.

Simulating microgravity with 60 days of 6 degree head-down tilt bed rest compromises sleep.

Astronauts in space often experience sleep loss. In the AGBRESA (Artificial Gravity Bed Rest) study, we examined 24 participants (mean age ± SD, 33 ± 9 years) during two months of 6 head-down tilt (HDT) bed rest, which is a well-established spaceflight analogue. Polysomnography was recorded during baseline (BDC-9), HDT (nights 1, 8, 30 and 58) and recovery (R, nights 1 and 12).

The industrial use of certain insects, such as the black soldier fly (BSF, Hermetia illucens), has become a burgeoning way of converting residual biomass into a valuable source of biomolecules for the feed and food industry. Here, the integration of a valuable step as an upcycling technology using biological waste from the 5th instar BSF larvae processing as a source of bioactive chitosan was explored. The goal is to pave the way for sustainable chitosan production from insect-based resources in addition to proteins, lipids, and fertilizers.
