The WAVE regulatory pentameric complex regulates actin remodeling. Two components of it (CYFIP2 and NCKAP1) are encoded by genes whose genetic mutations increase the risk for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and related neurodevelopmental disorders. Previously, addition of isatuximab (Isa) to standard-of-care lenalidomide-bortezomib-dexamethasone (RVd) in transplant-eligible patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma in the GMMG-HD7 trial (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT03617731) resulted in a significant increase of minimal residual disease negativity (MRD-) rates after induction therapy. A total of 662 patients were randomly assigned to receive induction therapy with Isa-RVd (n = 331) or RVd (n = 329), followed by single or tandem autologous stem-cell transplant and second random assignment to maintenance with lenalidomide alone or Isa-lenalidomide.

In this study, we combined amplicon sequencing of bacterial 16S rRNA genes from water, biofilm, and sediment samples collected in the anthropogenically impacted River Aconcagua basin (Central Chile, South America), in order to evaluate whether micropollutants alter bacterial community structure and functioning based on the type and degree of chemical pollution. Furthermore, we evaluated the potential of bacterial communities from differently polluted sites to degrade contaminants.

Cold acclimation with shivering improves metabolic health in adults with overweight or obesity.

Cold acclimation increases insulin sensitivity, and some level of muscle contraction appears to be needed for provoking this effect. Here 15 men and (postmenopausal) women with overweight or obesity, the majority of whom had impaired glucose tolerance, were intermittently exposed to cold to induce 1 h of shivering per day over 10 days. We determined the effect of cold acclimation with shivering on overnight fasted oral glucose tolerance (primary outcome) and on skeletal muscle glucose transporter 4 translocation (secondary outcome).

Patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) exhibit an elevated risk for cardiac arrhythmias, such as bradycardia, which may potentially lead to sudden cardiac death (SCD). While hypoglycemia, defined as a critical drop in glucose levels below the normal range, has long been associated with adverse cardiovascular events, recent studies have highlighted the need for a comprehensive reevaluation of its direct impact on cardiovascular outcomes, particularly in high-risk populations such as those with DM and CKD. In this study, we investigated the association between glucose levels and bradycardia by simultaneously monitoring interstitial glucose (IG) and ECG for 7 days in insulin-treated patients with DM and CKD.

The industrial use of certain insects, such as the black soldier fly (BSF, Hermetia illucens), has become a burgeoning way of converting residual biomass into a valuable source of biomolecules for the feed and food industry. Here, the integration of a valuable step as an upcycling technology using biological waste from the 5th instar BSF larvae processing as a source of bioactive chitosan was explored. The goal is to pave the way for sustainable chitosan production from insect-based resources in addition to proteins, lipids, and fertilizers.
