Identifying the prolactin threshold that necessitates pituitary magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in patients with hyperprolactinemia remains challenging. Therefore, developing standards for serum prolactin level criteria to predict prolactinoma is critical. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between hyperprolactinemia and the presence of pituitary adenoma among Saudi female patients with verified prolactin levels.

Detecting directional couplings from time series is crucial in understanding complex dynamical systems. Various approaches based on reconstructed state-spaces have been developed for this purpose, including a cross-distance vector measure, which we introduced in our recent work. Here, we devise two new cross-vector measures that utilize ranks and time series estimates instead of distances.

Oligogenic risk score for Gilles de la Tourette syndrome reveals a genetic continuum of tic disorders.

J Appl Genet

January 2025

Department of Neurogenetics and Functional Genomics, Mossakowski Medical Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences, Pawińskiego 5, 02-106, Warsaw, Poland.

Gilles de la Tourette syndrome (GTS) and other tic disorders (TDs) have a substantial genetic component with their heritability estimated at between 60 and 80%. Here we propose an oligogenic risk score of TDs using whole-genome sequencing (WGS) data from a group of Polish GTS patients, their families, and control samples (n = 278). In this study, we first reviewed the literature to obtain a preliminary list of 84 GTS/TD candidate genes.

The development of noninvasive methods for bladder cancer identification remains a critical clinical need. Recent studies have shown that atomic force microscopy (AFM), combined with pattern recognition machine learning, can detect bladder cancer by analyzing cells extracted from urine. However, these promising findings were limited by a relatively small patient cohort, resulting in modest statistical significance.

Background: Gastrointestinal ultrasound (GIUS) is recommended for monitoring Crohn's disease (CD). GIUS scores are used to quantify CD activity. Among them, IBUS-SAS (International Bowel Ultrasound Segmental Activity Score), BUSS (Bowel Ultrasound Score), Simple-US (Simple Ultrasound Score), and SUS-CD (Simple Ultrasound Score for Crohn's Disease) are most commonly used.

Introduction: Acoustic shadowing is an important benign ultrasound (US) feature for adnexal masses (AMs). To validate the diagnostic performance and interobserver agreement of the 2019 version and 2022 version of Ovarian-Adnexal Reporting and Data System Ultrasound (O-RADS US) and ascertain whether adding acoustic shadowing to O-RADS US v2019 as a benign ultrasound feature can enhance its diagnostic efficacy among junior radiologist.

Methods: This retrospective study included consecutive women with suspected adnexal masses who underwent ultrasound examinations between September 2022 and January 2024.

Objective: To analyze the diagnostic value of a combined test of anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibody (CCP), anti-keratin antibody (AKA), anti-carbamylated protein antibody (Carp antibody), and rheumatoid factor (RF) in the early diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

Methods: Sixty cases of RA admitted to our hospital from 2021 to 2022 (observation group) were selected, along with 50 cases of healthy physical examiners (control group). The results of CCP antibody, AKA antibody, Carp antibody, and rheumatoid factor in both groups were analyzed: the concentration of CCP antibody, AKA antibody, Carp antibody, and rheumatoid factor in each group at different levels; the comparison of various testing methods with the "gold standard" test; and the ROC curve analysis of CCP antibody, AKA antibody, Carp antibody, and rheumatoid factor in each group.

Heteronemin suppresses EGF‑induced proliferation through the PI3K/PD‑L1 signaling pathways in cholangiocarcinoma.

Oncol Rep

March 2025

Graduate Institute of Nanomedicine and Medical Engineering, College of Medical Engineering, Taipei Medical University, Taipei 11031, Taiwan, R.O.C.

Epidermal growth factor (EGF) binds with its surface receptor to stimulate gene expression and cancer cell proliferation. EGF stimulates cancer cell growth via phosphoinositide 3‑kinase (PI3K) and programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD‑L1) pathways. As an integrin αvβ3 antagonist, heteronemin exhibits potent cytotoxic effects against cancer cells.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a type of head and neck cancer (HNC) with a high recurrence rate, which has been reported to be associated with the presence of cancer stem cells (CSCs). Tribbles pseudokinase 3 (TRIB3) is involved in intracellular signaling and the aim of the present study was to investigate the role of TRIB3 in the maintenance of CSCs. Analysis of The Cancer Genome Atlas database samples demonstrated a positive correlation between TRIB3 expression levels and shorter overall survival rates in patients with HNC.

Background: The 2019 American Heart Association/American Stroke Association (AHA/ASA) guidelines strongly advise using non-contrast CT (NCCT) of the head as a mandatory test for all patients with suspected acute ischemic stroke (AIS) due to CT's advantages of affordability and speed of imaging. Therefore, our objective was to combine patient clinical data with head CT signs to create a nomogram to predict poor outcomes in AIS patients.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 161 patients with acute ischemic stroke who underwent mechanical thrombectomy at the Guangzhou Hospital of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine from January 2019 to June 2023.
