Changing pattern of admissions for acute myocardial infarction in India during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Aim: Studies on the changes in the presentation and management of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) during the COVID-19 pandemic from low- and middle-income countries are limited. We sought to determine the changes in the number of admissions, management practices, and outcomes of AMI during the pandemic period in India.

Methods & Results: In this two-timepoint cross-sectional study involving 187 hospitals across India, patients admitted with AMI between 15th March to 15th June in 2020 were compared with those admitted during the corresponding period of 2019.

The severe acute respiratory syndrome corona virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) causing the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has infected millions in recent years and is a major public health concern. Various cutaneous manifestations of the COVID-19 disease have been identified. Skin is a mirror to internal disease and can be the presenting sign of COVID-19 disease.

Effect of Angiotensin Converting Enzyme Inhibitors/Angiotensin Receptor Blockers on COVID-19 outcome: A Record Based Observational Study in West Bengal.

Background: Since its first identification in December 2019, in WUHAN (CHINA), SARS-COV-2, causative agent of Corona virus pandemic, has affected millions of people worldwide, causing thousands of death. There is much speculation about the interplay between ACEI/ARB and Corona virus infection, as for internalization into host cell SARS-COV-2 binds through S spike protein to ACE-2, aided TMPRSS2.

Methods: A record based observational study has been conducted (data obtained from the clinics of fourteen physicians) in two worst affected districts of West Bengal, to find out the association of ACEI/ARB on patients, suffering from Corona virus infection.

Outcome of conservative and minimally invasive management in emphysematous pyelonephritis.

Introduction: Emphysematous pyelonephritis (EPN) is a urologic emergency characterized by acute necrotizing infection with the presence of gas in the kidney, perinephric space, and/or urinary collecting system.

Materials And Methods: It is a retrospective study of inpatients at the Department of Urology, RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata, which includes twenty patients diagnosed as EPN between September of 2018 and May of 2020.

Treatment related fluctuation and response to intravenous immunoglobulin therapy in post COVID-19 Guillain-Barre syndrome.

Treatment related fluctuation (TRF) poses a special challenge in the treatment of Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS). Many cases of GBS following COVID-19 infection have been reported in literature till date, but treatment related fluctuation (TRF) in post COVID-19 GBS has not been reported till date. We report a 35-year-old male patient who developed GBS following COVID-19 infection and had TRF after intravenous immunoglobulin (IV-IG) therapy.

Psychiatric Profile and Response to Combined Pharmacologic and Psychotherapeutic Treatment in Psychogenic Purpura.

Psychogenic purpura is a rare psychocutaneous entity characterized by painful atraumatic, ecchymotic, and purpuric lesions that commonly occur in young women. The objective of this study is to describe the clinical presentation, psychiatric profile, and response to therapy (pharmacologic and psychotherapeutic) in patients with psychogenic purpura. Twenty-three patients, referred from various clinical departments with unexplained purpura or ecchymotic lesions, were assessed in the department of psychiatry of a tertiary care institute in eastern India over a period of 3 years (May 1, 2017, to April 30, 2020).

Isolated tricuspid valve endocarditis in immunocompetent juvenile patients: a series of three cases.

Right-sided native valve infective endocarditis is common in patients with congenital or valvular heart disease, intracardiac device, central venous catheter and intravenous drug abuse, usually manifesting in adulthood. However, in the absence of predisposing risk factors and in younger age groups, this disease may pose a diagnostic challenge. We report a case series of three juvenile patients with isolated tricuspid valve infective endocarditis without any risk factors and paucity of cardiovascular findings in two of them, in an attempt to highlight the importance of maintaining a high index of suspicion to arrive a timely diagnosis.

Tinea pseudoimbricata: observations from a clinicoepidemiological and mycological study from eastern India.

The characteristic ring with ring appearance in patients with dermatophytosis should raise the suspicion of application of topical corticosteroids (alone or in combination with topical antifungals). Such patients be counselled about the harmful effects applying such inappropriate combinaiton.

An Observational Survey to Appraise the Influence of COVID-19 Pandemic on Dermatology Training Programs in India: Residents' Standpoint.

Background: Given the all-encompassing foothold of COVID-19, it is plausible that the pandemic would have a long-lasting impact on medical training programs, including dermatology. We conducted a survey amongst the residents of dermatology (across India) to assess the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on their teaching and education programs.

Materials And Methods: An online semi-structured English questionnaire was prepared on the Google-forms platform and the link was circulated among the residents.

Tropical pyomyositis in scrub typhus: a rare association.

Tropical pyomyositis manifests as single or multiple abscesses inside skeletal muscles and it has a higher prevalence in immunocompromised patients. Scrub typhus, a zoonotic disease is caused by and the clinical manifestations range from simple febrile illness to organ threatening complications. Here, we present a rare case of an immunocompetent young man diagnosed as tropical pyomyositis in association with scrub typhus.

Cross-sectional analysis of the Parkinson's disease Non-motor International Longitudinal Study baseline non-motor characteristics, geographical distribution and impact on quality of life.

Growing evidence suggests that non-motor symptoms (NMS) in Parkinson's disease (PD) have differential progression patterns that have a different natural history from motor progression and may be geographically influenced. We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of 1607 PD patients of whom 1327 were from Europe, 208 from the Americas, and 72 from Asia. The primary objective was to assess baseline non-motor burden, defined by Non-Motor Symptoms Scale (NMSS) total scores.
