In a previous study, we showed that serine/threonine-protein kinase 4 (STK4) is involved in the control on proliferation and migration of endometrial cancer (EC) cells in vitro. In the present paper, we studied STK4 expression in EC tissues from a large cohort of patients to determine whether STK4 can serve as a marker for the aggressiveness and prognosis of EC. Tissue samples from patients with EC were examined for tumor type, grade, and stage.

Background: Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a highly heterogeneous disease accompanied by the arrest of myeloid cell lineage differenti-ation due to accumulation of genetic abnormalities and clonal proliferation of myeloid blasts. Finding the differentially expressed molecules and studying their function within AML subgroups may help to improve diagnosis and prognosis with the aim of developing selected therapies for AML subsets. The aim of this study was to reveal the profile of CD150 cell surface expression on bone marrow (BM) cells of AML patients.

Background: The combination of chemo- and radiotherapy used as main treatment of locally advanced cervical cancer (CC) may lead to side effects in healthy cells, which undermine the effectiveness of treatment and quality of life. The assessment of damage level in healthy radiosensitive cells from the tumor environment before the treatment is important in order to predict and prevent remote side effects of radiation.
Aim: To study the oxidative metabolism and genetic disorders in peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) of primary CC patients in order to evaluate the possibilities of predicting radiation complications based on the molecular and biological properties of PBL.

Aim: To evaluate the prognostic significance of a panel of biomarkers for the identification of a highly malignant molecular subtype of endometrioid carcinoma of the endometrium (ECE).
Materials And Methods: The expression of a number of markers (CD24, CD44, E2F1, FOXP3, Her2/neu, p21WAF1/CIP1, p53, β-catenin, vimentin, Е-cadherin, с-Myc, cyclins D1 and Е1) was determined by the immunohistochemical method in the samples of resected tumors of 127 patients with ECE of I-II stage. The Kullback method and the PanelomiX web tool were used to assess the informativeness and identify the aggressive subtype of ECE.

Cerium oxide nanoparticles (CeO NPs) are well known for their application in various fields of industry, as well as in biology and medicine. Knowledge of synthesis schemes, physicochemical and morphological features of nanoscale CeO is important for assessing their antioxidant behavior and understanding the mechanism of oxidative stress and its consequences. The choice of the method of synthesis should be based on the possibility to choose the conditions and parameters for obtaining CeO with controlled dimensions and a ratio of Се/Се on their surface.

Background: Prostate cancer (PCa) is one of the most common malignancies in older men. The study of tissue markers of PCa can provide information about the state of proliferation and apoptosis in tumors, the susceptibility of tumor cells to metastasis and the mechanisms of resistance to therapy, which, in turn, can help predict the course of the disease and develop personalized treatment. Polyamines (PAs) spermine, spermidine, putrescine are of particular interest in terms of PCa tissue markers.

Breast cancer is the leading malignancy in women worldwide. To date, much is known about the molecular subtypes of these malignant neoplasms and the mechanisms of drug resistance. Significant success has been achieved in approaches to early diagnosis, which allows identifying the tumor process in the early stages of development.

The unique physicochemical properties of modern two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials with graphene-like structures make them promising candidates for biology and medicine purposes. In this article, we investigate the influence of the two-dimensional tungsten disulfide (2D WS) water suspension nanoparticles obtained by an improved mechanochemical method from powdered WS on morphological and structural characteristics of Lewis lung carcinoma cells using FT-IR, Raman spectroscopy, and confocal microscopy. The characterization of the 2D WS nanoparticles by different physical methods is given also.

Terahertz (THz) electromagnetic radiation is commonly used in astronomy, security screening, imaging, and biomedicine, among other applications. Such approach has raised the question of the influence of THz irradiation on biological objects, especially the human body. However, the results obtained to date are quite controversial.

Here, we review the role of the circadian clock (CC) in the resistance of cancer cells to genotoxic treatments in relation to whole-genome duplication (WGD) and telomere-length regulation. The CC drives the normal cell cycle, tissue differentiation, and reciprocally regulates telomere elongation. However, it is deregulated in embryonic stem cells (ESCs), the early embryo, and cancer.

Epithelial-mesenchymal transition is an important component of tumor progression, due to which the cells of malignant neoplasms acquire invasive and migratory properties. Analysis of the literature and our own data show that the activation of proteins involved in epithelial-mesenchymal transition crucially affects the progression of endometrioid carcinoma of the endometrium and the significant variability of their expression could determine the clinical and morphological heterogeneity of this cancer. The most aggressive endometrioid carcinomas of the endometrium are characterized by a hybrid epithelial-mesenchymal phenotype, which is often associated with a collective type of invasion of endometrial tumor cells into the myometrium.

Background: SLAMF1/CD150 receptor is aberrantly expressed in malignant hematopoietic cells compared to ubiquitous expression in their normal analogues. However, the data about CD150 expression and function outside the hematopoietic system are limited. The aim of this pilot study was to examine the profile of mRNA expression of CD150 isoforms and the protein topology in highly and low malignant breast (BC) and prostate cancer (PC) cell lines.

Primary vaginal cancer (PVC) is a rare gynaecological malignancy, which, at present, lacks appropriate biomarkers for prognosis. The proteins dyskerin and WD repeat containing antisense to TP53 (WRAP53β), both of which exert their functions in the telomerase holoenzyme complex, have been shown to be upregulated in different cancer types. These proteins have also been proposed as prognostic markers in some types of cancer.

Background: Inhibition of aerobic glycolysis of cancer cells is considered a promising therapeutic strategy for the treatment of neoplasms. Some inhibitors of energy metabolism can affect not only tumor cells but also the functional polarization of tumor-associated macrophages, which may either enhance the antitumor effect of such agents or impair their antitumor efficacy.
Aim: To investigate the effect of oxamate, a lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) inhibitor, on the polarization of peritoneal macrophages (PMP) in both intact mice and mice with transplanted Lewis lung carcinoma (LLC).
