The purpose of this study was to investigate the sleep characteristics, circadian rhythms, behavior, and postnatal development of children with and without language difficulties (LDs) and the association of these variables with melatonin-containing food (FMT) consumption. The study involved parents who anonymously and voluntarily provided their children's personal data and assessed LDs, bedtime, meal timing, behavioral problems, gross motor skill development, and FMT consumption. Multiple regression analysis was used to analyze the associations between study variables.

Background: Single-slice computed tomography (CT) body composition has been studied extensively for prognostication in patients with cancer. New software packages can also provide multi-slice volumetric measurements, but the clinical utility of these remains under explored. This study aimed to evaluate the agreement between single- and multi-slice body composition analyses in patients with oesophagogastric cancer and to explore the association between these measures and overall survival.

Background: Elevated maternal serum sFLT1 (soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase 1) has a key role in the pathophysiology of preeclampsia. We sought to determine the relationship between the maternal and fetal genome and maternal levels of sFLT1 at 12, 20, 28, and 36 weeks of gestational age (wkGA).
Methods: We studied a prospective cohort of nulliparous women (3968 mother-child pairs).

Background: Hypertension or elevated blood pressure (BP) is a worldwide clinical challenge and the leading primary risk factor for kidney dysfunctions, heart failure, and cerebrovascular disease. The kidney is a central regulator of BP by maintaining sodium-water balance. Multiple genome-wide association studies revealed that BP is a heritable quantitative trait, modulated by several genetic, epigenetic, and environmental factors.

Background: Computational modeling indicated that pathological high shear stress (HSS; 100 dyn/cm) is generated in pulmonary arteries (PAs; 100-500 µm) in congenital heart defects causing PA hypertension (PAH) and in idiopathic PAH with occlusive vascular remodeling. Endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EndMT) is a feature of PAH. We hypothesize that HSS induces EndMT, contributing to the initiation and progression of PAH.

Background: Women who had preeclampsia (a history of preeclampsia) have a >4-fold risk of developing cardiovascular disease compared with women who had an uncomplicated pregnancy (history of healthy pregnancy). Despite the remission of clinical symptoms after pregnancy, vascular endothelial dysfunction persists postpartum, mediated in part by exaggerated Ang II (angiotensin II)-mediated constriction. However, the role of vasodilatory ATRs (Ang II type 2 receptors) in this dysfunction is unknown.

Purpose: Brain [18F]FDG-PET is a supportive biomarker for cognitive impairment in Lewy bodies disease (LBD) showing reduced occipital metabolism and presence of the cingulate island sign (CIS), a relative preservation of posterior cingulate cortex (PCC) metabolism compared with precuneus and cuneus. We assess validation, clinical utility, and reproducibility of a qualitative visual CIS scale in the differential diagnosis with Alzheimer's disease (AD) in a memory clinic setting.
Methods: Sixty-seven patients were studied: 36 LBD, of whom 30 with dementia (DLB) and 6 with mild cognitive impairment (MCI-LB), and 31 AD (20 typical and 11 atypical presentations).

White matter hyperintensities (WMH) of presumed vascular origin are a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based biomarker of cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD). WMH are associated with cognitive decline and increased risk of stroke and dementia, and are commonly observed in aging, vascular cognitive impairment, and neurodegenerative diseases. The reliable and rapid measurement of WMH in large-scale multisite clinical studies with heterogeneous patient populations remains challenging, where the diversity of imaging characteristics across studies adds additional complexity to this task.

Accurate prediction of physicochemical properties, such as electronic energy, enthalpy, free energy, and average vibrational frequencies, is critical for optimizing lithium-ion battery (LIB) performance. Traditional methods like density functional theory (DFT) are computationally expensive and inefficient for large-scale screening. In this study, we apply active learning on top of graph neural networks (GNNs) to efficiently predict these properties.

Aim: We aimed to identify the characteristics of patients with diabetes who can derive cognitive benefits from intensive blood pressure (BP) treatment using machine learning methods.
Materials And Methods: Using data from the Action to Control Cardiovascular Risk in Diabetes Memory in Diabetes (ACCORD-MIND) study, 1349 patients with type 2 diabetes who underwent BP treatment (intensive treatment targeting a systolic BP <120 mmHg vs. standard treatment targeting <140 mmHg) were included in the machine learning analysis.

This study intended to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of colistin sulfate aerosol inhalation in combination with ceftazidime-avibactam for the treatment of pulmonary carbapenem-resistant (CRKP) infection during the peri-operative period of liver transplantation. A retrospective analysis was designed to investigate 52 patients who developed pulmonary CRKP infection after liver transplantation between December 1, 2019, and November 30, 2022. On the basis of whether they received colistin sulfate aerosol inhalation, the patients were divided into the treatment group ( = 29) and the control group ( = 23).

In recent years, an increasing number of publications on the analysis of binary data have applied methods that take misclassification into account. However, potential misclassification is often ignored in study design due to the lack of sample size formulas or software. This may lead to a considerable loss of power in studies that only account for misclassification at the analysis stage.

This study compared the roles of extraparenchymal autonomic nervous system (ANS) control of cerebral blood flow (CBF) versus intraparenchymal cerebrovascular autoregulation in 487 patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and 413 patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). Vasomotion intensity of extraparenchymal and intraparenchymal vessels were quantified as the amplitude of oscillations of arterial blood pressure (ABP) and intracranial pressure (ICP) in the very low frequency range of 0.02-0.

Background: It is important to study the physicochemical properties of tilapia (Oreochromis mossambicus) skin gelatin and the changes in dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP-IV) inhibition activity during gastrointestinal digestion in order to understand and exploit the potential of tilapia as a source of DPP-IV inhibitory peptides.
Results: The DPP-IV inhibition of fish-skin gelatin increased from 9.92 ± 0.

Background: The immune response against tumors relies on distinguishing between self and non-self, the basis of cancer immunotherapy. Neoantigens from somatic mutations are central to many immunotherapeutic strategies and understanding their landscape in breast cancer is crucial for targeted interventions. We aimed to profile neoantigens in Kenyan breast cancer patients using genomic DNA and total RNA from paired tumor and adjacent non-cancerous tissue samples of 23 patients.

Background: Since the emergence of the hot topic of "ferroptosis," numerous studies have explored its role in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), revealing its significance in the disease's pathogenesis, progression, and treatment. However, there remains a significant gap in the quantitative analysis of ferroptosis in HCC. Therefore, this study aims to comprehensively assess the research progress and evolution in this field through bibliometric and citation analysis.

Purpose: To explore the value of quantitative imaging parameters by enhanced T weighted angiography (ESWAN) and dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) for evaluating the expression of Hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) in endometrial carcinoma (EC).
Methods: Data from 122 patients with EC confirmed by clinical pathology were retrospectively analyzed. According to the number of positive cells stained with HIF-1α by immunohistochemistry, patients were divided into two groups: 65 cases with high expression of HIF-1α and 57 cases with low expression of HIF-1α.
