Quantum Dot Luminescence Microspheres Enable Ultra-Efficient and Bright Micro-LEDs.

Adv Mater

January 2025

Fujian Key Laboratory of Surface and Interface Engineering for High Performance Materials, College of Materials, Xiamen University, Xiamen, 361005, P. R. China.

Quantum dot (QD)-converted micrometer-scale light-emitting diodes (micro-LEDs) are regarded as an effective solution for achieving high-performance full-color micro-LED displays because of their narrow-band emission, simplified mass transfer, facile drive circuits, and low cost. However, these micro-LEDs suffer from significant blue light leakage and unsatisfactory electroluminescence properties due to the poor light conversion efficiency and stability of the QDs. Herein, the construction of green and red QD luminescence microspheres with the simultaneously high conversion efficiency of blue light and strong photoluminescence stability are proposed.

Department of Oral & Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery, Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, College of Stomatology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, National Center for Stomatology, National Clinical Research Center for Oral Diseases, Shanghai Key Laboratory of Stomatology, Shanghai Research Institute of Stomatology, Research Unit of Oral and Maxillofacial Regenerative Medicine, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Shanghai, 200011, China.

Osteoporotic bone regeneration is challenging due to impaired bone formation. Tetrahedral DNA nanostructures (TDN), promising nucleic acid nanomaterials, have garnered attention for their potential in osteoporotic mandibular regeneration owing to their ability to enhance cellular activity and promote osteogenic differentiation. Osteoblasts play a critical role in bone regeneration; however, intracellular delivery of TDN into osteoblasts remains difficult.

Adv Mater

January 2025

Jiangsu Key Laboratory for Science and Applications of Molecular Ferroelectrics, Southeast University, Nanjing, 211189, P. R. China.

With the discovery of colossal magnetoresistance materials and high-temperature superconductors, Mott insulators can potentially undergo a transition from insulating state to metallic state. Here, in molecular ferroelectrics system, a Mott insulator of (CHN)VO has been first synthesized, which is a 2D organic-inorganic ferroelectric with composition of layered vanadium oxide and quinuclidine ring. Interestingly, accompanied by the ferroelectric phase transition, (CHN)VO changes sharply in conductivity.

The rapid advancement of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) in recent years has firmly established them as a new class of molecularly precise and highly tuneable porous materials. However, compared to other porous materials, such as zeolites and metal-organic frameworks, the successful integration of hierarchical porosity into COFs remains largely unexplored. The challenge lies in identifying appropriate synthetic methods to introduce secondary pores without compromising the intrinsic structural porosity of COFs.

Utilization of reusable catalysts and reaction media has recently been an area of interest to devise a sustainable approach. Interestingly, photoinduced reversible deactivation radical polymerization (photoRDRP) of glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) is achieved with reusable and magnetically separable nano zero-valent Iron (nZVI). This resulted in well-defined poly(glycidyl methacrylate) (PGMA) (upto 22700 g mol) with a low dispersity (Đ ≤ 1.

Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF), the most common cardiac arrhythmia, is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Inflammation has been implicated in the pathogenesis of AF, but the causal relationship between specific inflammatory proteins and AF risk is not well established. This study aims to clarify this relationship using a bidirectional two-sample Mendelian Randomization (TSMR) approach.

Robust Spray Combustion Enabling Hierarchical Porous Carbon-Supported FeCoNi Alloy Catalyst for Zn-Air Batteries.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

January 2025

National Energy Metal Resources and New Materials Key Laboratory, Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education for Advanced Battery Materials, Hunan Provincial Key Laboratory of Nonferrous Value-Added Metallurgy, School of Metallurgy and Environment, Central South University, Changsha 410083, P. R. China.

Rechargeable Zn-air batteries (RZABs) are poised for industrial application, yet they require low-cost, high-performance catalysts that efficiently facilitate both the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The pivotal challenge lies in designing multimetal active sites and optimizing the carbon skeleton structure to modulate catalyst activity. In this study, we introduce a novel hierarchical porous carbon-supported FeCoNi bifunctional catalyst, synthesized via a spray combustion method.

Rational Design of Quinoidal Conjugated Polymers for Photothermal Antibacterial Therapy.

Macromol Rapid Commun

January 2025

School of Materials Science and Engineering, Hebei University of Technology, Tianjin, 300401, P. R. China.

The increasing prevalence of antibiotic resistance, driven by the overuse and misuse of conventional antibiotics, has become a critical public health concern. Photothermal antibacterial therapy (PTAT) utilizes heat generated by photothermal agents under light exposure to inhibit bacterial growth without inducing resistance, attracting more and more attention. Quinoid conjugated polymers, especially para-azaquinodimethane (AQM) polymer, are a class of organic semiconductors known for efficient π-electron delocalization, near-infrared absorption, and narrow bandgap, showing great potential in the application of photothermal reagents.

With the resolution revolution of cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and the rapid development of image processing technology, cryo-EM has become an indispensable experimental method for determining the three-dimensional structures of biological macromolecules. However, structural modeling from cryo-EM maps remains a difficult task for intermediate-resolution maps. In such cases, detection of protein secondary structures and nucleic acid locations in an EM map is of great value for model building of the map.

Exploring Tetra-/Penta-/Hexavalent Ion Substitution in Yttrium-Based Halide Solid-State Electrolytes.

Nano Lett

January 2025

Tianjin Key Lab for Rare Earth Materials and Applications, Center for Rare Earth and Inorganic Functional Materials, School of Materials Science and Engineering, National Institute for Advanced Materials, Nankai University, Tianjin 300350, P.R. China.

Although aliovalent ion substitution is an important strategy for enhancing ionic conductivity in halide electrolytes, the choice of doping ions is often restricted to tetravalent ions, and investigations into the intrinsic origin of the doping mechanism are lacking. In this work, we investigated the effects of Zr, Ta and W doping on the crystal structure and ionic conductivity of yttrium-based rare-earth halides. Only Zr achieves fast ion diffusion in both the (001) and (002) crystal planes by affecting the volume of the octahedron and the tetrahedral interstitial space, whereas Ta significantly enhances the ion diffusion rate in the (001) crystal plane while suppressing it in the (002) plane, and W does the opposite.
