Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a significant contributor to cancer-related mortality, emphasizing the need for advanced biomarkers to guide treatment. As part of an international consortium, we previously categorized CRCs into four consensus molecular subtypes (CMS1-CMS4), showing promise for outcome prediction. To facilitate clinical integration of CMS classification in settings where formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) samples are routinely used, we developed NanoCMSer, a NanoString-based CMS classifier using 55 genes.

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a major global health concern, affecting maternal and child health. Although genetic predispositions and individual medical histories are well-recognized risk factors, emerging research suggests a significant impact of external factors like neighborhood socioeconomic characteristics. This study systematically reviews and meta-analyzes the association between neighborhood deprivation and GDM incidence.

Not harming others is widely regarded as a fundamental tenet of human morality. Harm aversion based on the consequences of an action is called utilitarianism while focusing on the action itself is associated with deontology. This study investigated how interoceptive processing affects the neural processing of utilitarian and deontological moral decision-making.

Background And Purpose: Segmentation imperfections (noise) in radiotherapy organ-at-risk segmentation naturally arise from specialist experience and image quality. Using clinical contours can result in sub-optimal convolutional neural network (CNN) training and performance, but manual curation is costly. We address the impact of simulated and clinical segmentation noise on CNN parotid gland (PG) segmentation performance and provide proof-of-concept for an easily implemented auto-curation countermeasure.

Despite the benefits of minimally invasive surgery, interventions such as laparoscopic liver surgery present unique challenges, like the significant anatomical differences between preoperative images and intraoperative scenes due to pneumoperitoneum, patient pose, and organ manipulation by surgical instruments. To address these challenges, a method for intraoperative three-dimensional reconstruction of the surgical scene, including vessels and tumors, without altering the surgical workflow, is proposed. The technique combines neural radiance field reconstructions from tracked laparoscopic videos with ultrasound three-dimensional compounding.

Spinal cord ischemia/reperfusion (IR) injury (SCII) can cause major autonomic, sensory, and motor damage and loss. The upregulation of Nrf2, a primary orchestrator of the oxidative stress response, has beneficial effects in SCII. Here, we aimed to uncover a SCII-related transcription factor that is able to elevate Nrf2 expression.

Introduction: Perfectionism, as a transdiagnostic variable, can influence both the intrapersonal and interpersonal domains, one of the most significant of them is thought to be marital relationship. Given that perfectionism within a couple can negatively affect their intimate relationship and potentially lead to destructive outcomes, reviewing studies conducted in this area seems to be essential to gain a clearer understanding. Therefore, the present systematic review aims to examine the association between perfectionism and marital outcomes in married individuals.

Background: Even patients with normal computed tomography (CT) head imaging may experience persistent symptoms for months to years after mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). There is currently no good way to predict recovery and triage patients who may benefit from early follow-up and targeted intervention. We aimed to assess if existing prognostic models can be improved by serum biomarkers or diffusion tensor imaging metrics (DTI) from MRI, and if serum biomarkers can identify patients for DTI.

There is increasing evidence that long non-coding (lnc)RNA EGFR-AS1 is involved in the development of numerous types of cancer, including non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) demonstrates that EGFR-AS1 is highly expressed in NSCLC. Downregulation of EGFR-AS1 in A549 and PC9 NSCLC cells demonstrates inhibition of NSCLC proliferation, invasion and metastasis.

Objective: To compare the effectiveness of different measurement methods on bone miner density (BMD), including cervical HU of CT, MRI-based cervical vertebral bone quality (C-VBQ), and value of DEXA, for predicting cage subsidence after single-level ACDF.
Methods: This is a retrospective study, and patients who underwent single-level ACDF from June 2019 to June 2022 were recruited. We collected preoperative total segmental vertebral height (pre-TSVH), cage subsidence height, cervical angle (CA), T1-slope, straight or reverse cervical curvature, mean HU value of C3-7 (C-HU), mean HU of segment (seg-HU), C-VBQ, segmental C-VBQ (seg-VBQ), and total lumbar value ( value).

Sickle cell trait (SCT) has been associated with alterations in various immune-related laboratory parameters including lower circulating lymphocyte counts. To further characterize the impact of SCT on the immune system, we performed flow cytometry of monocyte and lymphocyte immune cell subsets from peripheral blood mononuclear cells collected in a large, community-based cohort of SCT-positive (n = 68) and SCT-negative (n = 959) Black adults. SCT was significantly associated with lower proportions of CD8 and CD4 T cell subsets that include senescent-like markers of repeated immune system challenges.

The oral microbiome plays an important role in human health, and an imbalance of the oral microbiome could lead to oral and systemic diseases. Orthodontic treatment is an effective method to correct malocclusion. However, it is associated with many adverse effects, including white spot lesions, caries, gingivitis, periodontitis, halitosis, and even some systematic diseases.

Thermodynamic theory suggests that the obvious mechanical behavior caused by temperature and interlayer angle will affect the physical properties of materials, such as mechanical properties and transportation behavior, and it is different from the behavior in three-dimensional bulk materials. We observe an abnormal physical effect of bilayer graphene/hexagonal boron nitride (G/BN)-carbon nanotube (CNT) heterostructures, with a normalized out-of-plane deformation and normalized bond angle percentage to almost several times higher those of pristine G/BN heterostructures (without CNT) at 700-800 K. Our combined finite element theory and molecular dynamics simulations confirmed that the combination of CNT and interlayer angle diverted and bridged the propagating crack and provided a stable crack propagation path and crack tip opening displacement, resulting in the stress fields to be controlled around the CNT at high temperature.

Objective: The objective of this study is to identify factors influencing progression of respiratory decline from the onset of neurological symptoms to respiratory failure in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
Methods: In 100 patients with sporadic ALS, %vital capacity (%VC) was continuously measured from the first visit to the respiratory endpoint (REP). Cox proportional hazards model identified factors influencing the duration from onset of ALS to REP (Onset-REP).

Background And Purpose: Radiotherapy induces tumor cell killing by generating DNA double strand breaks (DSBs). The effectiveness of radiotherapy is significantly influenced by the repair of DSBs, which counteracts this lethal effect. Current investigations are focused on determining whether non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) or homologous recombination is the predominant repair pathway following proton and photon radiation.

Breast cancer (BC) is a malignant tumor, that damages the physical health of female patients. It is crucial to develop new treatment strategies for BC, as this disease significantly affects the quality of life of women in both developing and developed countries, despite the existence of effective treatment options to reduce mortality. Recently, several researchers have been studying circular RNAs (circRNAs) in BC due to their stability and sponge function.
