Fluid administration is widely used to treat hypotension in patients undergoing veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV-ECMO). However, excessive fluid administration may lead to fluid overload can aggravate acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and increase patient mortality, predicting fluid responsiveness is of great significance for VV-ECMO patients. This prospective single-center study was conducted in a medical intensive care unit (ICU) and finally included 51 VV-ECMO patients with ARDS in the prone position (PP).

Cancer Institute, Key Laboratory of Cancer Prevention and Intervention, the China National Ministry of Education, Key Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Medical Sciences, Zhejiang, The Zhejiang University School of Medicine Affiliated Second Hospital, Zhejiang; Zhejiang Provincial Clinical Research Center for Cancer and Cancer Center of Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, Zhejiang.

Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) incidence has been increasing. Colonoscopy is still a gold standard method for its early diagnosis but using colonoscopy alone as a mass screening method is unrealistic. This study is to investigate whether combining fecal immunochemical test (FIT) and high-risk-factors questionnaire (HRFQ) with colonoscopy improve the cost-effectiveness of a mass CRC screening.

Article Synopsis
  • Mumps is an infectious disease that can be prevented by vaccination, and its incidence was analyzed in Quzhou City after the introduction of the MMR vaccine.
  • Despite a significant reduction in mumps cases over 15 years, the highest incidence was still found in vaccinated children aged 0-12, possibly due to vaccine escape.
  • The study suggests that existing vaccines may need updates or new development to target multiple viral strains for better control, as antibody levels do not reliably indicate immunity or protection against mumps.

Department of Ophthalmology, The Quzhou Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, Quzhou People's Hospital, Quzhou, 324000, China; College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Zhejiang Chinese Medical University, Hangzhou, 310053, China. Electronic address:

Epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a critical process implicated in the pathogenesis of retinal fibrosis and the exacerbation of diabetic retinopathy (DR) within retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cells. Apigenin (AP), a potential dietary supplement for managing diabetes and its associated complications, has demonstrated inhibitory effects on EMT in various diseases. However, the specific impact and underlying mechanisms of AP on EMT in RPE cells remain poorly understood.

Quzhou Aurantii Fructus (QAF) has a long history as a folk medicine and food for the treatment of liver diseases. While our earlier study provided evidence of hepatoprotective properties contained within the flavonoids and limonins constituents in QAF, the potential preventative effects afforded by essential oil components present within QAF remains enigmatic. In this study, we prepared Quzhou Aurantii Fructus essential oil (QAFEO) and confirmed its anti-inflammatory effects on liver inflammation through experimentation on lipopolysaccharide and D-galactosamine (LPS/D-GalN) induced acute liver failure (ALF) mouse models.

  • Research on noncancer causes of death in esophageal cancer (EC) patients is limited; this study aims to deeply analyze these causes.
  • Data was collected from the SEER database, examining 63,560 EC patients, with 52,503 deaths recorded during follow-up; most died from EC within 5 years, but 59% of those who survived longer than a decade died from noncancer causes.
  • Cardiovascular disease was the leading noncancer cause (43%), while other notable risks included suicide (2%) and septicemia; the findings highlight the need for clinicians to focus more on noncancer-related death risks among EC patients.
