To illustrate the potential of mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes (MSC-Exos) in mitigating septic lung injury by reducing the excessive formation of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), a mouse model of septic lung injury was induced through cecal ligation and puncture (CLP). The mice received intraperitoneal injections of MSC-Exos. Post injection, pathological alterations of the lung tissue were evaluated through HE staining, and the levels of inflammatory markers in each mouse group at various time points were assessed using ELISA kits.

Purpose: SLM 3D printing technology is one of the most widely used implant-making technologies. However, the surfaces of the implants are relatively rough, and bacteria can easily adhere to them; increasing the risk of postoperative infection. Therefore, we prepared a near-infrared photoresponsive nano-TiO coating on the surface of an SLM 3D-printed titanium alloy sheet (Ti6Al4V) via a hydrothermal method to evaluate its antibacterial properties and biocompatibility.

The traditional posterior median approach laminectomy is widely used for lumbar decompression. However, the bilateral dissection of paraspinal muscles during this procedure often leads to postoperative muscle atrophy, chronic low back pain, and other complications. The posterior midline spinous process-splitting approach (SPSA) offers a significant advantage over the traditional approach by minimizing damage to the paraspinal muscles.

Drinking water flavor, a critical water quality metric, exhibits substantial regional variations across China, influenced by local geology and chemistry. Despite growing consumer concerns about water flavor, a spatial assessment of the determinants of water flavor in China has been notably lacking. This study bridges this gap by conducting a spatially comprehensive analysis of 78 tap water samples throughout China.

A smartphone-integrated colorimetric sensor is introduced for the rapid detection of phenolic compounds, including 8-hydroquinone (HQ), p-nitrophenol (NP), and catechol (CC). This sensor relies on the peroxidase-mimicking activity of aspartate-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) such as Cu-Asp, Ce-Asp, and Cu/Ce-Asp. These MOFs facilitate the oxidation of a colorless substrate, 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB), by reactive oxygen species (ROS) derived from hydrogen peroxide (HO), resulting in the formation of blue-colored oxidized TMB (ox-TMB).

Article Synopsis
  • The study developed a portable mass spectrometry technique for accurately measuring tirofiban drug concentrations in blood to enhance patient safety and treatment efficacy.
  • The method identified a significant parent ion peak for tirofiban and optimized various parameters, achieving a limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) of 10.1 and 33.7 μg·L, respectively.
  • Although the technique faced some challenges from blood sample matrix effects, it successfully detected tirofiban in 10 out of 12 clinical samples, demonstrating the need for further optimization and validation to boost sensitivity and stability.

December 2024

Panvascular Diseases Research Center, The Quzhou Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, Quzhou People's Hospital, Quzhou 324000, China; Laboratory of Food Nutrition and Clinical Research, Institute of Seafood, Zhejiang Gongshang University, Hangzhou 310012, China. Electronic address:

This study tackled mislabeling fraud in vegetable oils, driven by price disparities and profit motives, by developing an approach combining desorption electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (DESI-MS) with a shallow convolutional neural network (SCNN). The method was designed to characterize lipids and distinguish between nine vegetable oils: corn, soybean, peanut, sesame, rice bran, sunflower, camellia, olive, and walnut oils. The optimized DESI-MS method enhanced the ionization of non-polar glycerides and detected ion adducts like [TG + Na], [TG + NH].

Testicular cancer predominantly affects adolescents and young adults (AYAs) aged 15-39 years. This study analyzed the global, regional, and national burden of testicular cancer among AYAs (1990 to 2021). Data from the Global Burden of Disease study was used to calculate age-standardized rates of incidence (ASIR), prevalence (ASPR), and disability-adjusted life years (ASDR).

Fluid administration is widely used to treat hypotension in patients undergoing veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV-ECMO). However, excessive fluid administration may lead to fluid overload can aggravate acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and increase patient mortality, predicting fluid responsiveness is of great significance for VV-ECMO patients. This prospective single-center study was conducted in a medical intensive care unit (ICU) and finally included 51 VV-ECMO patients with ARDS in the prone position (PP).

Diabetic cardiomyopathy is a unique cardiomyopathy that is common in diabetic patients, and it is also a diabetic complication for which no effective treatment is currently available. Moreover, relevant studies have revealed that a link exists between type 2 diabetes and heart failure and that abnormal thickening of EAT is inextricably linked to the development of diabetic heart failure. Numerous clinical studies have demonstrated that EAT is implicated in the pathophysiologic process of diabetic myocardial disease.

Front Oncol

December 2024

Department of Medical Oncology, International Ward, The Quzhou Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, Quzhou People's Hospital, Quzhou, China.

Background: ROS1, a member of the sevenless subfamily of tyrosine kinase insulin receptors, promotes tumor cell survival, proliferation, and metastasis by activating the JAK/STAT, PI3K/AKT, and MAPK/ERK pathways. It only accounts for about 2% of total NSCLC cases. No cases of acquired ROS-1 rearrangement have been reported worldwide.

Effects of FGFR2b-ligand signaling on pancreatic branching morphogenesis and postnatal islet function.

J Mol Histol

December 2024

National Clinical Research Center for Ocular Disease, School of Ophthalmology and Optometry, Eye Hospital, Wenzhou Medical University, 270 West Xueyuan Road, Wenzhou, 325027, Zhejiang, China.

Pancreatic development is a complex process vital for maintaining metabolic balance, requiring intricate interactions among different cell types and signaling pathways. Fibroblast growth factor receptors 2b (FGFR2b)-ligands signaling from adjacent mesenchymal cells is crucial in initiating pancreatic development and differentiating exocrine and endocrine cells through a paracrine mechanism. However, the precise critical time window that affects pancreatic development remains unclear.
