Objectives: To analyze the influence of daily activity-related factors associated with COVID-19 infection on the occurrence of acute angle closure (AAC).
Methods: A multicenter hospital-based study was conducted at 23 ophthalmic centers in 17 provincial-level regions across China to recruit patients with confirmed AAC during the post-lockdown time of COVID-19 (P-TOC) from Dec 7, 2022, to Jan 17, 2023, and three lockdown time of COVID-19 (TOC) periods, which included the TOC-2022 (Sep 7, 2022 - Dec 6, 2022), TOC-2021(Sep 7, 2021 - Jan 6, 2022) and TOC-2020 (Sep 7, 2020 - Jan 6, 2021). Patient information, including demographic, a questionnaire on daily activity changes during the AAC period, COVID-19 history, and eye examination results, was collected.

Technique: Choledochojejunostomy is an important procedure in hepatobiliary pancreatic surgery. It is used in pancreaticoduodenectomy, biliary strictures, liver transplantation, and other surgical reconstructions involving bile duct resection. Safe and reliable anastomosis under laparoscopic guidance is important for good postoperative recoveries.

Metformin is commonly used, but approximately 20% of patients experience gastrointestinal intolerance, leading to medication discontinuation for unclear reasons and a lack of effective management strategies. In this study, the 18 fecal and blood samples were analyzed using 16S rRNA and mRNA transcriptome, respectively. These samples included 3 fecal and 4 blood from metformin-tolerant T2D patients before and after metformin treatment (T and Ta), 3 fecal and 5 blood from metformin-intolerant T2D patients before and after treatment (TS and TSa), and 6 fecal samples from healthy controls.

Chinese Research Group for Minimally Invasive Anatomical Liver Resection (The Workshop of liver future [W.O.L.F.]).
Background: Laparoscopic anatomical liver resection of segment 8 (LALR-S8) remains a challenge for anatomical laparoscopic segmentectomy. Most current reports on LALR-S8 are case series using one surgical approach, and there is a lack of multicenter data on identifying intersegmental planes using different approaches. In this study, the authors aimed to elucidate the short-term results of three different approaches for LALR-S8 for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), focusing on intersegmental plane determination, and to reflect on current practice regarding different approaches at multiple centers in China.

Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) with lymph node metastasis has a poor clinical prognosis. Comprehensive surgical treatment based on surgery is critical for improving the prognosis. Conversion therapy provides an opportunity for radical surgery in such patients but also increases the difficulty of surgery.

Background: Although anterior or posterior surgery for cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) has been extensively studied, the choice of anterior or posterior approach in four-segment CSM remains poorly studied and controversial. We compared the clinical and radiographic outcomes of four-segment CSM by posterior laminoplasty (LAMP) and anterior cervical decompression fusion (ACDF) to further explore the merits and demerits of ACDF and LAMP for four-segment CSM in this study.
Methods: Patients with four-segment CSM who underwent ACDF or LAMP between January 2016 and June 2019 were retrospectively analyzed.

Introduction: Musculoskeletal system gradually degenerates with aging, and a hypoxia environment at a high altitude may accelerate this process. However, the comprehensive effects of high-altitude environments on bones and muscles remain unclear. This study aims to compare the differences in bones and muscles at different altitudes, and to explore the mechanism and influencing factors of the high-altitude environment on the skeletal muscle system.
