Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) is a progressive eye disease that slowly causes patients to go blind. For several years now, it has been an important research field to try to understand how the disease progresses and find effective medical treatments. Researchers have been mostly interested in studying the evolution of the lesions using different techniques ranging from manual annotation to mathematical models of the disease.

Purpose: Macular edema is a common retinal disease which may leave important anatomical and functional sequelaes. Directional fundus imaging consists of comparing on- and off-axis images to reveal angle-dependent reflectance properties of fundus structures, which may be related to misaligned photoreceptors. Here, we analyzed directional optical coherence tomography (OCT) and flood-illumination adaptive optics ophthalmoscopy images to detect evidence of misaligned photoreceptors following macular edema.

Image-based angiography is a well-adapted technique to characterize vasculature, and has been used in retinal neurovascular studies. Because the microvasculature is of particular interest, being the site of exchange between blood and tissue, a high spatio-temporal resolution is required, implying the use of adaptive optics ophthalmoscopes with a high frame rate. Creating the opportunity for decoupled stimulation and imaging of the retina makes the use of near infrared (NIR) imaging light desirable, while the need for a large field of view and a lack of distortion implies the use of a flood illumination-based setup.

Masquerade syndromes represent a large set of ophthalmological entities that mimic inflammatory conditions. Any delay in their diagnosis may be correlated with systemic dissemination or worsening of the causal disease and, therefore, with poor prognosis. One of the disadvantages of the new potent treatments of uveitis is the delay that they can induce in the diagnosis of neoplastic intraocular infiltrations.

Purpose: To analyze the evolution of macular vessel density (VD) over 1 year, during early worsening of diabetic retinopathy, in patients with uncontrolled Type 1 diabetes (T1D).
Methods: Retrospective study of 12 eyes of 9 patients with T1D with early worsening of diabetic retinopathy imaged with optical coherence tomography angiography. The following data were collected at the time of pan retinal photocoagulation initiation and after 6 and 12 months: vessel density within three retinal plexuses-superficial vascular plexus, intermediate capillary plexus, and deep capillary plexus; foveal avascular zone area, acircularity index, and flow density (FD)-300; central macular thickness; and HbA1c levels.

Background: An artificial-tear formulation containing the dual polymers hydroxypropyl guar (HPG) and hyaluronic acid (HA) is approved for the treatment of dry-eye disease (DED). The present study compared the efficacy and safety of the HPG-HA dual-polymer formulation vs a sodium hyaluronate (SH)-containing artificial-tear formulation in patients with DED.
Methods: In a prospective, 6-week, multicenter, double-masked, parallel-group study, patients with DED aged ≥18 years and total ocular surface staining (TOSS) score ≥4 and ≤9 were randomized (1:1) to receive either HPG-HA or SH four times a day for 42 days.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of nonpenetrating deep sclerectomy (NPDS) on posture-induced intraocular pressure (IOP) changes in open-angle glaucoma (OAG).
Materials And Methods: Twenty-five eyes of 25 patients with OAG that underwent NPDS were included in this study. IOP was measured with the IcarePro (ICP) tonometer in the sitting, supine, dependent lateral decubitus position (DLDP), and nondependent lateral decubitus position (NDLDP) before surgery, and at 1 and 3 months after surgery.

Neurotrophic Keratopathy (NK) refers to a condition where corneal epitheliopathy leading to frank epithelial defect with or without stromal ulceration (melting) is associated with reduced or absent corneal sensations. Sensory nerves serve nociceptor and trophic functions, which can be affected independently or simultaneously. Loss of trophic function and consequent epithelial breakdown exposes the stroma making it susceptible to enzymatic degradation.

Purpose: To analyze retinal and choroidal microvasculature in patients with nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) by using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A).
Methods: In this case-control retrospective observational study, patients with atrophic NAION (at least 3 months after onset of symptoms) and normal subjects underwent a complete ophthalmic examination including spectral-domain OCT, visual field (VF), and OCT-A. Whole en face image vessel density (wiVD) was used to assess retinal blood flow of the radial peripapillary capillaries (RPCs), circumpapillary RPC vessel density (cpVD), superficial capillary plexus (SCP), deep capillary plexus (DCP), and choriocapillaris (CC).

Dry eye disease (DED) is a common condition with signs and symptoms that vary depending on a wide range of environmental factors to which people are exposed in their daily lives. Factors such as variable temperature, airflow velocity, relative humidity, seasonality, and pollutants can alter the rate of tear film evaporation, improving or exacerbating symptoms of DED. Results from currently available clinical tests do not always correlate well with patient-reported symptoms, and the continually changing environment and variability in DED symptoms present challenges for the design and conduct of clinical trials.

We formed a database gathering the wavefront aberrations of 50 healthy eyes measured with an original custom-built Shack-Hartmann aberrometer at a temporal frequency of 236 Hz, with 22 lenslets across a 7-mm diameter pupil, for a duration of 20 s. With this database, we draw statistics on the spatial and temporal behavior of the dynamic aberrations of the eye. Dynamic aberrations were studied on a 5-mm diameter pupil and on a 3.
