Down syndrome, caused by an extra copy of all or part of chromosome 21, is the most prevalent intellectual disability of genetic origin. Among numerous comorbidities which are part of the phenotype of individuals with Down syndrome, ocular problems appear to be highly prevalent. Neuro-ophthalmological manifestations, such as ocular alignment and motility disturbances, amblyopia, hypoaccommodation or optic nerve abnormalities, and other organic ocular anomalies frequently reported in Down syndrome, may lead to an overall decrease in visual acuity.

Objectives: The upcoming release of aprotinin in paediatric cardiac surgery prompted a re-evaluation of its use in comparison to tranexamic acid (TXA) focusing on their effect on exposure to blood transfusions as well as severe postoperative morbidity or mortality.

Rotaviruses are the most common enteric pathogens to cause acute diarrhoea in infants and young children throughout the world. Two new live, orally administered vaccines (Rotarix and RotaTeq) that provide protection against rotavirus infections are now available and have been licensed in many countries in Europe, North and Latin America. Two recent large clinical trials have demonstrated that their efficacy, immunogenicity and safety, including absence of vaccine-associated intussusception in young infants, are remarkably similar.

Dentocraniofacial morphology of 21 patients with unilateral cleft lip and palate: a cephalometric study.

Objective: To assess the skeletal and dental craniofacial proportions of unilateral cleft lip and palate patients who were operated upon using the Malek technique, and compare them with a normal group to highlight the effect of surgical correction on craniofacial development during growth.

Methods: The cleft palate was closed using the Malek technique in a single operation at 3 months for 11 patients (complete closure of lip and palate) and in a two-stage operation for 10 patients (soft palate at 3 months, lip and hard palate at 6 months).

A new operating technique has been perfected, especially adapted to paediatric traumatology: stable elastic rodding, precise and less aggressive technique.
