To summarize the current strategies and interventions in reducing urinary tract infections associated with urinary catheters, use and the need for re-catheterization on the rate of CA-UTIs, we performed a systematic review.

A functional assay for serum detection of antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 nucleoprotein.

The humoral immune response to SARS-CoV-2 results in antibodies against spike (S) and nucleoprotein (N). However, whilst there are widely available neutralization assays for S antibodies, there is no assay for N-antibody activity. Here, we present a simple in vitro method called EDNA (electroporated-antibody-dependent neutralization assay) that provides a quantitative measure of N-antibody activity in unpurified serum from SARS-CoV-2 convalescents.

Physical multimorbidity and incident urinary incontinence among community-dwelling adults aged ≥50 years: findings from a prospective analysis of the Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing.

Background: There are no prospective studies on the association between multimorbidity and urinary incontinence (UI), while mediators in this association are unknown. Thus, we aimed to (i) investigate the longitudinal association between multimorbidity and UI in a large sample of Irish adults aged ≥50 years and (ii) investigate to what extent physical activity, polypharmacy, cognitive function, sleep problems, handgrip strength and disability mediate the association.

Methods: Data on 5,946 adults aged ≥50 years old from the Irish Longitudinal Study on Aging were analysed.

Backgrounds & Aims: Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) is a chronic liver disease in which autoimmune destruction of the small intrahepatic bile ducts eventually leads to cirrhosis. Many patients have inadequate response to licensed medications, motivating the search for novel therapies. Previous genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and meta-analyses (GWMA) of PBC have identified numerous risk loci for this condition, providing insight into its aetiology.

Acute mesenteric ischaemia due to superior mesenteric vein (SMV) thrombosis.

A 77-year-old male patient presented with a 5-day history of abdominal pain, coffee ground vomiting and blood-stained diarrhoea. CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis demonstrated a long segment thrombotic occlusion of the superior mesenteric vein (SMV) extending up to the proximal portion of the portal vein causing significant acute small bowel ischaemia. Patient's deteriorating clinical condition warranted surgical management.

Purpose: The scope of radiation therapy is limited in melanoma. Using in vitro melanoma models, we investigated a Notch signaling inhibitor as a radiosensitizer to explore its potential to improve the efficacy of radiation therapy to widen the clinical application of radiation therapy in melanoma.

Methods And Materials: Melanoma cell lines A375, SKMEL28, and G361 were grown using standard tissue culture methods.

Parental Anxiety and Posttraumatic Stress Symptoms in Pediatric Food Allergy.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to explore anxiety, worry, and posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) in parents of children with food allergies, and to evaluate whether these three psychological outcomes could be predicted by allergy severity, intolerance of uncertainty, and food allergy self-efficacy.

Methods: Participants were 105 parents who reported their children to have medically diagnosed food allergies. Participants were recruited to a study on parent wellbeing through an allergy clinic and social media advertisements.

X Chromosome Contribution to the Genetic Architecture of Primary Biliary Cholangitis.

Background & Aims: Genome-wide association studies in primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) have failed to find X chromosome (chrX) variants associated with the disease. Here, we specifically explore the chrX contribution to PBC, a sexually dimorphic complex autoimmune disease.
