Article Synopsis
  • The National Cancer Survivorship Initiative in the UK is focusing on patient-initiated follow-up (PIFU) for cancer care, moving away from long-standing hospital-based follow-up methods, which have not proven to improve survival rates.
  • Evidence shows that traditional follow-up systems do not adequately address patient needs, leading to a call for new, tailored pathways that focus on individual patient circumstances.
  • The British Gynaecological Cancer Society aims to create guidelines for implementing PIFU in gynecological cancers to standardize care and enhance the overall patient experience.

Objectives: There are limited case series reporting the impact on women affected by coronavirus during pregnancy. In women affected by severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS), the case fatality rate appears higher in those affected in pregnancy compared with non-pregnant women. We conducted a rapid review to guide health policy and management of women affected by COVID-19 during pregnancy, which was used to develop the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists' (RCOG) guidelines on COVID-19 infection in pregnancy.

Congenital toxoplasmosis occurs following transplacental transfer of Irrespective of symptom status at birth, infants with congenital infection may develop serious long-term sequelae, including learning disability, seizures, hydrocephalus, motor and hearing deficits, chorioretinitis and retinal scarring with impaired vision. Timely diagnosis facilitates early initiation of therapy, aimed at prevention or amelioration of adverse clinical consequences. Diagnosis can be difficult, however, since acutely infected mothers are often asymptomatic and laboratory testing can be complex.

Department of Gynaecologic Oncology, Queen Charlotte's and Chelsea Hospital, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, London, United Kingdom.

Article Synopsis
  • Fertility-sparing surgery (FSS) is a key technique in gynecology that aims to remove problematic tissues while preserving fertility, and intraoperative ultrasound (IOUS) can improve this process.
  • This paper reviews existing research on the use of IOUS in FSS and offers recommendations on how to effectively implement IOUS during these operations.
  • The findings suggest that IOUS enhances the accuracy of tumor removal with high success rates and reduced risk of harming healthy tissues, highlighting the importance of improved training in ultrasound techniques for better outcomes in FSS.

Objective: To develop a preoperative risk model, using endometrial biopsy results and clinical and ultrasound variables, to predict the individual risk of lymph-node metastases in women with endometrial cancer.

Methods: A mixed-effects logistic regression model for prediction of lymph-node metastases was developed in 1501 prospectively included women with endometrial cancer undergoing transvaginal ultrasound examination before surgery, from 16 European centers. Missing data, including missing lymph-node status, were imputed.

The Ovarian-Adnexal Reporting and Data System (O-RADS) US risk stratification and management system is designed to provide consistent interpretations, to decrease or eliminate ambiguity in US reports resulting in a higher probability of accuracy in assigning risk of malignancy to ovarian and other adnexal masses, and to provide a management recommendation for each risk category. It was developed by an international multidisciplinary committee sponsored by the American College of Radiology and applies the standardized reporting tool for US based on the 2018 published lexicon of the O-RADS US working group. For risk stratification, the O-RADS US system recommends six categories (O-RADS 0-5), incorporating the range of normal to high risk of malignancy.

Background: The behavior of the immune system as a driver in the progression of ovarian cancer has barely been studied. Our knowledge is mainly limited to the intra-tumoral adaptive immune system. Because of the widespread metastases of ovarian cancer, an assessment of the circulating immune system seems more accurate.

Introduction: Ovarian tumors are the most common diagnostic challenge for gynecologists and ultrasound examination has become the main technique for assessment of ovarian pathology and for preoperative distinction between malignant and benign ovarian tumors. However, ultrasonography is highly examiner-dependent and there may be an important variability between two different specialists when examining the same case. The objective of this work is the evaluation of different well-known Machine Learning (ML) systems to perform the automatic categorization of ovarian tumors from ultrasound images.
