Bias Mitigation in Primary Health Care Artificial Intelligence Models: Scoping Review.

Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) predictive models in primary health care have the potential to enhance population health by rapidly and accurately identifying individuals who should receive care and health services. However, these models also carry the risk of perpetuating or amplifying existing biases toward diverse groups. We identified a gap in the current understanding of strategies used to assess and mitigate bias in primary health care algorithms related to individuals' personal or protected attributes.

Background: Aortic valve calcification (AVC) has been shown to be a powerful assessment of aortic stenosis (AS) severity and a predictor of adverse outcomes. However, its accuracy in patients with low-flow AS has not yet been proven. In studies of individuals of primarily European genetic ancestry, common and low-frequency variants and rare coding variants have been found to be associated with the risk of bipolar disorder (BD) and schizophrenia (SZ). However, less is known for individuals of other genetic ancestries or the role of rare non-coding variants in BD and SZ risk. We performed whole genome sequencing of African American individuals: 1,598 with BD, 3,295 with SZ, and 2,651 unaffected controls (InPSYght study).

The impact of oral contraceptive pill use on sympathetic transduction at rest in young females.

Although previous work has demonstrated that oral contraceptive pill (OCP) use does not affect resting muscle sympathetic nerve activity (MSNA), growing evidence indicates that it attenuates neurogenic vasoconstriction. Despite these advances, it remains unknown how OCP use affects the ability of MSNA to dynamically control vascular tone and arterial blood pressure (BP) on a beat-by-beat basis. Thus, we tested the hypothesis that, compared with naturally menstruating females (MC), those using OCPs will exhibit attenuated sympathetic vascular transduction at rest.

Tailored hydration for the prevention of contrast-induced acute kidney injury after coronary angiogram or PCI: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI) is a frequent complication of coronary interventions associated with an increased risk of mortality and morbidity. The optimal intravenous hydration strategy to prevent CI-AKI is not well-established. The primary objective is to determine if a tailored hydration strategy reduces the risk of CI-AKI and of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in patients undergoing coronary angiography compared with a nontailored hydration strategy.
