To study a new method for establishing animal models of prenatal bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), we used lung ultrasound score (LUS) to semi-quantitatively assess the severity of lung lesions in model rats. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) was injected into the right lung of the fetus of the rat under ultrasound-guided, and the right lung of the neonates were scanning for LUS. Specimens were collected for pathological scoring and detection of pulmonary surfactant-associated glycoprotein (SP)-C and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression quantity.

Summary: Utilizing the Mendelian randomization technique, this research clarifies the putative causal relationship between body mass index (BMI) andbone mineral density (BMD), and the mediating role of low-density lipoprotein (LDL). The implications of these findings present promising opportunities for enhancing our understanding of complex bone-related characteristics and disorders, offering potential directions for treatment and intervention.

Objective: The objective of this study is to examine the correlation between BMI and BMD, while exploring the intermediary role of LDL in mediating the causal impact of BMI on BMD outcomes via Mendelian randomization.

Measurement of human body parameters for human postural assessment via single camera.

J Biophotonics

November 2023

Pcn-Tung Sah Institute of Micro-Nano Science and Technology, Xiamen University, Xiamen, China.

We present a camera-based human body parameters measurement approach and develop a human postural assessment system. The approach combines the conventional contact measurement method and the non-contact measurement method to overcome some shortcomings in terms of time, expense, and professionalism in early methods. The entire measurement system consists of a computer, a high-definition camera, and the sticky points that are applied to the participant's body before the measurement.

Acute anterior circulation large vessel occlusion refers to a blockage in the blood flow of one of the major blood vessels in the anterior (front) part of the brain. Acute anterior circulation large vessel occlusion can lead to a range of symptoms, including sudden headache, difficulty speaking or understanding speech, weakness or numbness on one side of the body and loss of vision in one eye. According to relevant data, mechanical thrombectomy in the treatment of the large vessel recanalization rate can reach 70%.

Cardiac fibrosis is an important pathological process in many diseases. Wdr5 catalyzes the trimethylation of lysine K4 on histone H3. The effects of Wdr5 on the cardiac fibrosis phenotype and the activation or transformation of cardiac fibroblasts were investigated by Ang-II-infused mice by osmotic mini-pump and isolated primary neonatal rat cardiac fibroblasts.

Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) consists of a group of hematologic tumors that are derived from the clonal proliferation of hematopoietic stem cells, featuring abnormal hematopoietic cell development and ineffective hematopoiesis. Animal models are an important scientific research platform that has been widely applied in the research of human diseases, especially tumors. Animal models with MDS can simulate characteristic human genetic variations and tumor phenotypes.

Introduction: The narrowband chirp (NB Chirp), a frequency-specific sound stimulus signal obtained by limiting the frequency bandwidth based on chirp, is applied to the frequency specified auditory brainstem response (fsABR) increasingly. Although some studies demonstrated that NB Chirp-evoked auditory brainstem response (NB Chirp ABR) causes a better neural response than tone burst-evoked auditory brainstem response and is preferred for fsABR, there is little known about how to better estimate an individual's hearing level through the threshold of NB Chirp ABR. The present study intended to compare the accuracy and deviation of NB Chirp ABR corrected by different approaches in estimating the hearing level of people with normal hearing.

February 2021

Department of General Surgery, Fujian Medical University Union Hospital, No. 29 Xinquan Road, Fuzhou, 350001, People's Republic of China.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the role of VISTA, an immune checkpoint protein, in pancreatic cancer (PDAC) to assess its impact on patient survival and its potential as a therapy.
  • Researchers used immunohistochemistry on tumor samples from 223 patients to analyze VISTA expression and its correlation with overall survival and immune cell presence.
  • Results showed that high VISTA expression in tumor cells was linked to better survival rates, and treatment with anti-VISTA antibodies reduced liver metastases in mouse models, indicating its promise as a therapeutic target.
