Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, College of Pharmacy, Addiction and Neuroscience Taif University, Taif 21944, Saudi Arabia. Electronic address:

Myocardial infarction results in an increased inflammatory and oxidative stress response in the heart, and reducing inflammation and oxidative stress after MI may offer protective effects to the heart. In the present study, we examined the cardioprotective effects of ferulic acid (FA) and ferulic acid nanostructured solid lipid nanoparticles (FA-SLNs) in an isoproterenol (ISO) induced MI model. Male Sprague Dawley rats were divided into five experimental groups to compare the effects of FA and FA-SLNs.

Extensive fumigation of synthetic pesticides to control the mosquito vector during each post-monsoon season in Pakistan significantly enhanced the environmental contamination and extinction of beneficial insects from the urban ecosystems. In this context, the present study examined the larvicidal efficacy of green synthesized iron nanoparticles (IONPs), using an aqueous leaf extract of Grevillea robusta against the early 2nd and 4th instar larvae of Aedes aegypti and Anopheles stephensi in Pakistan. The prepared IONPs were characterized by UV-Vis spectrum, FTIR, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and energy-dispersive diffraction.

The aim of this research work is the synthesis of sulfamoyl-benzamides as a selective inhibitor for -NTPDases. Sulfonamides are synthesized in aqueous medium from chlorosulfonylbenzoic acid while carboxamides are synthesized using carbodiimide coupling decorated with different biologically relevant substituents such as -butyl, cyclopropyl, benzylamine, morpholine, and substituted anilines. In addition, sulfonamide-carboxamide derivatives were synthesized having the same substituents on either side.

In this article, we report the band gap tuning of ternary ZnCdS quantum dots (QDs) by varying the concentration of the capping ligand, mercaptoacetic acid (MAA). The functionalization of QDs leads to the control of their size and band gap due to the quantum confinement effect, causing blue shift in the absorption and photoluminescence (PL) spectra with a gradual change in the concentration of the capping ligand from 0.5 to 2.

The relationship between trade flows and exchange rate uncertainty is still being debated in academic circles while examining the effects of exchange rate uncertainty on India's bilateral trade flows, prior research disregard the "third-county" effect. This study investigates the effect of third-country risk on the amount of India-US commodity trade using time series data for 79 Indian commodity export and 81 Indian commodity import businesses. The results show that the volume of trade in a select few industries is considerably impacted by third-country risk in terms of dollar/yen and rupee/yen.

Article Synopsis
  • Updated data on chronic respiratory diseases (CRDs) are essential for preventing and controlling these conditions as part of achieving the UN's goal of reducing premature mortality from non-communicable diseases by 2030.
  • From 1990 to 2019, global, regional, and national estimates were analyzed for various CRDs, including COPD and asthma, to assess their impact on mortality, disability, and overall prevalence.
  • In 2019, CRDs resulted in 4 million deaths and 454.6 million cases worldwide, with conditions like COPD being the leading cause of death among CRDs, despite a decline in age-standardized rates for most diseases over the period analyzed.

Article Synopsis
  • A new electrocatalyst made from yttrium oxide and palladium nanoparticles was created using a sodium borohydride reduction method, optimizing the ratio of these materials to enhance performance.
  • Characterization techniques like XPS, TEM, and XRD confirmed that the best-performing electrocatalyst, PdY/rGO, had the highest current density and lowest onset potential compared to other standards.
  • The presence of yttrium oxide improved the structure and properties of the catalyst, resulting in greater stability, resistance to CO poisoning, and a larger electrochemically active surface area.

In this study, the semen parameters, sperm chromatin integrity, antioxidant enzyme levels, and reproductive hormone levels of subfertile male subjects from Pakistan were assessed in relation to their age. Data on the demographic characteristics of the 750 study participants, including their general health, body mass index (BMI), and reproductive status, were collected from subfertile men from Pakistan. Semen and blood were collected to determine standard semen parameters, sperm chromatin dispersion (Halosperm-SCD), sperm chromatin integrity using toluidine blue (TB) staining, sperm chromatin maturity using chromomycin A3 (CMA3+) staining, and reproductive hormone (FSH, LH, prolactin and testosterone levels).
