Background: Although thyroid cancer is associated with low mortality rates, significant racial disparities in thyroid cancer outcomes have not been adequately studied in Asia. Moreover, the Asian population consists of different ethnic groups that are not homogeneous. This study aimed to perform a population-based analysis of survival outcomes and prognostic factors in thyroid cancer patients.

Background: The clinical phenotypes of 16p13.11 microduplication syndrome have been extensively reported in previous studies, mostly about adults and children, with limited information available on fetal cases. This study aims to explore the genotype-phenotype correlation of fetuses with 16p13.

Purpose: Colorectal cancer (CRC) remains a major global health concern, necessitating innovative therapeutic strategies to enhance treatment efficacy. In this study, we investigated the role of AKR1C4 in CRC and its impact on chemotherapy response.

Methods: AKR1C4 stable knockout CRC cell lines were generated using CRISPR/Cas9 technology.

Background: Cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury (CIRI) have severe consequences on brain function, and the exciting evidence has revealed protective role of acyl-CoA synthetase long chain family member 4 (Lin28a) against cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury. The present work aims to reveal its molecular mechanism in regulating CIRI, with the hope of providing a therapeutic method for cerebral I/R injury. We hypothesized that the exosomal nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NRF2) derived from bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells could transcriptionally activate Lin28a and thereby alleviate cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury.

TMEM120A-mediated regulation of chemotherapy sensitivity in colorectal cancer cells.

Cancer Chemother Pharmacol

January 2024

Department of Gastroenterology, Qixia City People's Hospital, Qixia, Shandong, China.

Purpose: Enhancing chemotherapy sensitivity in colorectal cancer (CRC) is critical for improving treatment outcomes. TMEM120A has been reported to interact with coenzyme A (CoA), but its biological significance in CRC is unknown. In this study, we aimed to investigate the functional implications of TMEM120A in CRC and its impact on chemotherapy sensitivity.

Purposes: The present meta-analysis aimed at identifying potential prognostic indicators associated with adipose distribution patterns for predicting the survival outcomes of patients diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Methods: A systematic retrieve was performed to identify studies investigating the association of adipose distribution patterns and the prognosis of HCC from the inception of PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases to May 25, 2023. The Newcastle-Ottawa scale was applied to assess the quality of included studies.

Mixing different kind inhalation medications for simultaneous inhalation is widely used in the treatment of chronic respiratory diseases, and it can minimize the administration time and improve patient adherence. To our knowledge, it is unclear whether beclomethasone (BDP, Clenil®) can bemixed with acetylcysteine (NAC, Fluimucil®), because the in vitro physico-chemical compatibility and aerosol characteristics of the mixture are unknown. In this study, we investigated physical compatibility, including the appearance, pH, osmotic pressure and chemical stability, as well as aerosol characteristics, including particle size corresponding to 10%/50%/90% of the cumulative percentage of total particle volume (10/50/90), volume median droplet diameter (VMD), mass median aerodynamic diameter (MMAD), fine particle fraction (FPF), fine particle dose (FPD) and geometric standard deviation (GSD), delivery rate, and total delivery of the above solutions.
