This study investigated the effects of ergosterol peroxide(EP) on the proliferation and apoptosis of MCF-7 breast cancer cells, explored its possible mechanisms of action, and verified the effects and mechanisms by in vitro experiments. Network pharmaco-logy was used to screen the target proteins of EP and construct target networks and protein-protein interaction(PPI) networks to predict the potential target proteins and related pathways involved in EP anti-breast cancer effects. The MTT assay was performed to measure the inhibitory effect of EP on MCF-7 cell proliferation, and the colony formation assay was used to assess the cell cloning ability.

Article Synopsis
  • This study looked at how a substance called ergosterol peroxide (EP) affects cancer cells in the liver, specifically a type called hepatocellular carcinoma.
  • Researchers tested different amounts of EP to see how well it stopped these cancer cells from growing over different periods (24, 48, and 72 hours).
  • The results showed that EP not only increased the number of dying cancer cells but also changed some important proteins in those cells, suggesting that EP helps to kill cancer cells by affecting their energy factories, called mitochondria.

The objective of this study was to establish a novel method for the detection of lean meat powder (salbutamol sulfate and terbutaline sulfate) residues in commercially available pig liver based on diazo coupling reaction by combining thin layer chromatography (TLC) with surface-enhanced resonance Raman scattering (SERRS). TLC was used to separate samples; after determining the spots of each component, diazo coupling reaction was carried out on the spots in situ to generate azo compounds, and then the spots of azo compounds mixed with silver sol on the TLC plate were qualitatively detected by SERRS. The limit of detection (LOD) of salbutamol sulfate was as low as 0.

As a vital antioxidant molecule, HS can make an important contribution to regulating blood vessels and inhibiting apoptosis when present at an appropriate concentration. Higher levels of HS can interfere with the physiological responses of the respiratory system and central nervous system carried out by mammalian cells. This is associated with many illnesses, such as diabetes, mental decline, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer.

This study aimed to synthesize silica-coated gold (Au@SiO) nanoparticles coupled to antibodies against the scavenger receptor class B type I (SR-BI) and investigate their potential ability of visual tracking and treatment of cervical cancer. The fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC)-labeled Au@SiO-SR-BI antibody was synthesized, followed by characterization determination. The expression and location of SR-BI protein in cervical cancer cells were respectively detected by western blot and immunofluorescence assays.

Through a retrospective analysis of the projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China in the past ten years in the field of Chinese medicine for the treatment of malignant tumors, this article systematically summarized the main research contents and hotspots of Chinese medicine in efficacy enhancement and toxicity reduction. The efficacy enhancement of Chinese medicine mainly included the mitigation of molecule-targeted drug resistance, multidrug resistance, and chemotherapy resistance, synergistic efficacy enhancement, and radiotherapy sensitization. The toxicity reduction is mainly reflected in the alleviation of the side effects of radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

Objective: To analyze the effects of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) plus loving-kindness mediation (LKM) in depressed patients.

Methods: A total of 125 depressed patients diagnosed in the Department of Psychiatry of our hospital were selected as the research subjects and were randomly divided into a control group (n=62) and an observation group (n=63). The control group was treated with conventional psychological intervention, while the observation group was treated with MBCT plus LKM.

A growing body of studies has demonstrated that acute transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy for treatment-resistant major depressive disorder (MDD) has achieved significant antidepressant effects and can alleviate other related symptoms. However, MDD has a high relapse rate, and patients with depressive symptoms can relapse weeks or months after acute TMS treatment. The lack of necessary TMS maintenance protocols after completing acute TMS treatment with full remission might be one of the reasons for the high relapse rates in MDD patients.

In our recent study, hydrophobic cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs) were demonstrated as an effective method of improving cancer treatment. To provide more evidence and broaden the application range for this promising strategy of improving cancer treatment, novel hydrophobic CPP-modified (PFV-modified) nanoliposomes loaded with paclitaxel, termed PFV-Lip-PTX, were developed as a treatment for breast cancer. Physicochemical evaluations of PFV-Lip-PTX revealed spheroid-like regular vesicles of about 120 nm in diameter with negative charge.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs), endogenous noncoding small RNAs, have been reported to play crucial roles in epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in cancers. Deregulation of microRNA-204 (miR-204) has been documented in many cancers, but its role in the development of esophageal cancer (EC) has not been studied. Here, we reported the role of miR-204 in invasion and EMT in EC.

Zhenrenyangzang Decoction (ZD) has been used as a classic formula in China for the treatment of gastrointestinal dysfunction such as chronic gastritis. However, there is less study on its application in ulcerative colitis (UC) and the effects are not yet clearly defined. To explore the effectiveness of ZD in trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS)-induced UC rats, ZD was administered orally for 8 days at a dosage of 2, 4 or 8 g/kg/day.
