Anoikis-related genes in breast cancer patients: reliable biomarker of prognosis.

BMC Cancer

September 2024

Key Laboratory of Molecular Diagnostics and Precision Medicine for Surgical Oncology in Gansu Province, Gansu Provincial Hospital, Lanzhou, China.

Background: Breast cancer (BC) is the most common cancer in women, and its progression is closely related to the phenomenon of anoikis. Anoikis, the specific programmed death resulting from a lack of contact between cells and the extracellular matrix, has recently been recognized as playing a critical role in tumor initiation, maintenance, and treatment. The ability of cancer cells to resist anoikis leads to cancer progression and metastatic colonization.

Article Synopsis
  • There has been significant progress in diagnosing and treating ACL injuries in China, with ACL reconstruction widely recognized for restoring knee stability, though standardized protocols are still needed.
  • The Chinese Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Chinese Society of Sports Medicine collaborated to create an expert consensus aimed at improving diagnostic and treatment standards for ACL injuries.
  • Experts focused on "Graft Selection" and "Clinical Outcome Evaluation" during the consensus development, concluding that while there is no definitive graft choice, each option has its benefits and drawbacks regarding healing, availability, costs, and risks, particularly for young athletes.

Background: The incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC) in China is steadily rising, with a high proportion of advanced-stage diagnoses. This highlights the significance of early detection and prevention measures to enhance survival rates. Fecal immunochemical testing (FIT) is a globally recommended CRC screening method; however, limited research has been conducted on its application in Hainan.

Blood urea nitrogen (BUN) level is one of the commonly used indicators to assess renal function and systemic immune-inflammatory status. In the adolescent population, changes in BUN levels may be associated with a variety of factors, including physiologic dehydration, lifestyle influences such as nutritional intake, physical activity, and possible endocrine or metabolic disorders. In recent years, more and more studies have shown that BUN levels are not only a reflection of kidney function, but it may also be related to the inflammatory state of the body.

A short review on environmental distribution and toxicity of the environmentally persistent free radicals.

Chemosphere

November 2023

Guangdong Key Laboratory of Environmental Pollution and Health, School of Environment, Jinan University, Guangzhou, 511443, China. Electronic address:

Environmentally Persistent Free Radicals (EPFRs) are usually generated by the electron transfer of a certain radical precursor on the surface of a carrier. They are characterized with high activity, wide migration range, and relatively long half-life period. In this review, we summarized the literature on EPFRs published since 2010, including their environmental occurrence and potential cytotoxicity and biotoxicity.

Controllable release of nitric oxide from an injectable alginate hydrogel.

Int J Biol Macromol

December 2023

Key Laboratory of Advanced Materials of Tropical Island Resources of Ministry of Education and School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Hainan University, Haikou, Hainan 570228, China. Electronic address:

Currently, the controlled release of nitric oxide (NO) plays a crucial role in various biomedical applications. However, injectable NO-releasing materials remain an underexplored research field to date. In this study, via the incorporation of S-nitroso-N-acetyl-penicillamine (SNAP) as an NO donor, a family of NO-releasing injectable hydrogels was synthesized through the in situ cross-linking between sodium alginate and calcium ion induced by D-(+)-gluconate δ-lactone as an initiator.

Renal fibrosis, a common pathological manifestation of virtually all types of chronic kidney disease (CKD), ultimately predisposes patients to end-stage renal disease. However, there is no effective therapy for renal fibrosis. Our earlier studies proved that RIP3-mediated necroptosis might be an important mode of renal tubular cell death in rats with chronic renal injury.
