Background: Ischemic tolerance is an endogenous protective mechanism in organs or tissues undergoing one or more short-term sublethal ischemias. Intermittent hypobaric hypoxia preconditioning (IHHP) can induce tolerance and thus protect brain tissues from cerebral ischemic injury (CIR). The current study evaluated the neuroprotective effect of IHHP.

The combination of synergistic agents with intumescent flame retardants (IFRs) is an excellent strategy for the development of high-performance flame retardant composites. Zirconium-based compounds are multifunctional materials with applications in various fields. In this study, zirconium-based compounds were synthesized and then combined with an IFR composed of ammonium polyphosphate (APP) and tris (2-hydroxyethyl) isocyanurate (THEIC) to prepare flame retardant high density polyethylene (HDPE) composites.

Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are capable of generating multiple types of cells and play a vital role in promoting gastric cancer (GC) progression. Our previous research indicated that gastric CSCs with surface markers of CD44+ were more invasive compared to CD44- CD90+ CSCs (CD90+ CSCs), whereas CD90+ CSCs exhibited higher levels of proliferation than CD44+ CSCs. However, the mechanism and characteristics of marker-positive gastric CSCs are poorly understood.

Polyploidy can cause variation in plant functional traits and thereby generate individuals that can adapt to fluctuating environments and exploit new environments. However, few empirical studies have tested for an association between ploidy level and climatic tolerance of invasive cytotypes relative to conspecific native-range cytotypes. Here, we used an invasive plant to test whether invasive populations had a higher proportion of polyploids, greater height and stem-base diameter, and occupied a wider range of climatic conditions than conspecific native-range populations.

State Key Laboratory of New Ceramic and Fine Processing, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Tsinghua University Beijing 100084 P. R. China

A facile and environmentally friendly template-free method is developed for the fabrication of SnO nanotubes electrospinning and precisely controlled heat treatment method. It is revealed that the as-spun solid SnO precursor fibers gradually transformed into hollow-structured nanotubes when the temperature was controlled precisely from 200 °C to 600 °C. It was confirmed, that this remarkable structural evolution corporate the respective thermal decomposition of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) at the surface and inside of the fibers.

MicroRNA-1908 is involved in the occurrence and development of various tumors. However, the mechanism of microRNA-1908-5p in the pathogenesis of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is not thoroughly studied. Protein phosphatase 5 catalytic subunit (PP5), a member of the protein phosphatase catalytic subunit family, may be a target of the microRNA-1908-5p.

Article Synopsis
  • Quantifying soil organic carbon (SOC) changes is crucial for ecology and sustainable agriculture, but existing methods have biases that affect accuracy and comparability.
  • New approaches using basal mineral-matter reference systems and equivalent mineral-matter volume (EMMV) aim to overcome these biases by providing a more standardized comparison for SOC estimation.
  • Results show that modified methods yield higher SOC accumulation rates in carbon-rich forests compared to traditional methods, but the effectiveness varies in carbon-poor lands, highlighting the need for careful method selection based on specific conditions.

Upland buzzard (), Saker falcon (), and Himalayan vulture () are three common large raptors in the Sanjiangyuan National Park (SNP), China's first national park. Among them, Upland buzzard and Saker falcon play a significant role in controlling plateau rodent populations and reducing the transmission of pathogens carried by rodents. The Himalayan vulture can provide services for the redistribution and recycling of nutrients in the ecosystem, and play an irreplaceable role in the celestial burial culture of Tibetans in China.

February 2019

Qinghai Provincial Key Laboratory of New Light Alloys, Qinghai Provincial Engineering Research Center of High Performance Light Metal Alloys and Forming, Qinghai University Xining 810016 PR China.

Single-phase CaSr(PO):Sm,Li phosphors were prepared a high-temperature solid-state method under air. The powder X-ray diffraction patterns, scanning electron microscopy images, photoluminescence spectra, and concentration-dependent emission spectra were measured to characterize the as-prepared phosphors and luminescence decay curves. The results showed that the CaSr(PO):Sm,Li phosphors exhibited red luminescence, and the emission spectra of the phosphors consisted of four sharp peaks at around 565, 601 (the strongest one), 647 and 707 nm.

May 2018

Shanghai Key Laboratory of Advanced Polymeric Materials, Key Laboratory for Ultrafine Materials of Ministry of Education, School of Materials Science and Engineering, East China University of Science and Technology Shanghai 200237 China +86-021-64253353.

In this study, a series of ethylene glycol modified urea-melamine-formaldehyde resins (EUMFs) were synthesized from urea, melamine, paraformaldehyde and ethylene glycol, and then incorporated into rigid polyurethane foams (RPUFs) as a reactive-type liquid flame retardant. The structure of EUMFs was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectrometry; the morphology of the foams was characterized by scanning electron microscopy; and the thermal degradation and fire behavior of RPUFs were characterized by limiting oxygen index (LOI), cone calorimetry test and thermogravimetry analysis. The results show that the incorporation of EUMFs results in an increase in thermal stability, smoke suppression and LOI of RPUFs.
