Article Synopsis
  • The corrosion behavior of 304 stainless steel was studied at 450 °C in both molten and vapor forms of NaNO-NaCl-NaF salt, revealing noticeable weight loss and the formation of surface oxides like FeO and FeCrO.
  • A corrosion layer of about 1.1 μm was noted to be more homogeneous in molten salt, while in vapor, the oxide distribution was uneven with shedding issues attributed to gas presence affecting adhesion.
  • The corrosion rate in molten salt was found to be nearly the same as that in solar salt, suggesting that the combined effects of Cl and F ions on corrosion are minimal, contributing valuable data for materials selection in Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) applications.

Anthropogenic-driven global change, including changes in atmospheric nitrogen (N) deposition and precipitation patterns, is dramatically altering N cycling in soil. How long-term N deposition, precipitation changes, and their interaction influence nitrous oxide (NO) emissions remains unknown, especially in the alpine steppes of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau (QTP). To fill this knowledge gap, a platform of N addition (10 g m year) and altered precipitation (±50% precipitation) experiments was established in an alpine steppe of the QTP in 2013.

The hummock-depression micro-topography characteristics of the alpine marshy wetland in Sanjiangyuan are indicative of wetland degradation and the process by which healthy wetlands are transformed into flat grasslands. The aim of the present study was to examine changes in plant community structure and soil characteristics in a hummock-depression micro-topography along a degradation gradient. We observed that: (a) the height and cover of dominant hydrophytes decreased gradually with an increase in degradation severity, leading to replacement by xerophytes; (b) with the transition from healthy to degraded wetlands, hummocks became sparser, shorter, and broader and became merged with nearby depressions; water reserves in the depressions shifted from perennial to seasonal, until they dried out completely; and (c) soil moisture content, porosity, hardness, and organic matter gradually decreased by 30.

Plant regeneration strategy plays a critical role in species survival and can be used as a proxy for the evolutionary response of species to climate change. However, information on the effects of key plant traits and phylogenetic relatedness on seed germination is limited at large regional scales that vary in climate. To test the hypotheses that phylogenetic niche conservatism plays a critical force in shaping seed ecophysiological traits across species, and also drives their response to climatic fluctuation, we conducted a controlled experiment on seed germination and determined the percentage and rate of germination for 249 species in subtropical China under two temperature regimes (i.
