Article Synopsis
  • Bisphenol AF (BPAF) is shown to transfer more easily from mother to fetus and accumulate in the offspring’s body compared to bisphenol A (BPA), raising health concerns during pregnancy.
  • A study on SD rats exposed to different doses of BPAF during gestation revealed significant bioaccumulation in liver, spleen, and kidneys, leading to various adverse health effects in the offspring, including organ damage and changes in gene expression related to metabolism and inflammation.
  • The research identified 217 altered metabolites in the spleen and significant enrichment in 9 biological pathways, highlighting the systemic toxicity of prenatal BPAF exposure and urging a reevaluation of its safety due to its widespread use.

Approved anticancer drugs typically face challenges due to their narrow therapeutic window, primarily because of high systemic toxicity and limited selectivity for tumors. Prodrugs are initially inactive drug molecules designed to undergo specific chemical modifications. These modifications render the drugs inactive until they encounter specific conditions or biomarkers , at which point they are converted into active drug molecules.

Blockage of the NLRP3 inflammasome by MCC950 inhibits migration and invasion in adenomyosis.

Reprod Biomed Online

October 2024

Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Shandong Provincial Hospital, Shandong University, Jinan, Shandong, P. R. China. Electronic address:

Research Question: Does the NOD-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome have an effect in adenomyosis?

Design: Fresh-frozen endometrial tissues and paraffin specimens were obtained from endometrial tissues from patients with adenomyosis and controls. Western blot, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and immunohistochemistry (IHC) were applied to assess expression of the NLRP3 inflammasome components. Primary eutopic endometrial stromal cells were isolated from the uteri of patients with adenomyosis.

Article Synopsis
  • - A bronchogenic cyst (BC) is a rare congenital cyst that can occur in the neck, specifically in the area above the hyoid bone, which can lead to confusion in diagnosis.
  • - In a reported case, a male child was incorrectly diagnosed with a thyroglossal duct cyst due to a neck mass that moved with swallowing, which is a typical symptom of that condition.
  • - After surgical removal and analysis of the tissue, the cyst was found to contain cartilage and specific epithelial cells, confirming it as a bronchogenic cyst, highlighting the importance of accurate diagnosis for neck masses.

Purpose: This two-center study aimed to explore the main prognostic factors affecting the final disease status in children and adolescents with differentiated thyroid cancer (caDTC) following total thyroidectomy and radioiodine therapy (RAIT).

Materials And Methods: All caDTC patients from two centers in the period from 2004-2022 were retrospectively included. At the last follow-up, the patients' disease status was assessed and classified as an incomplete response (IR) or as an excellent or indeterminate response (EIDR).

Background: Necrotising enterocolitis (NEC) is a critical gastrointestinal emergency affecting premature and low-birth-weight neonates. Serum amyloid A (SAA), procalcitonin (PCT), and high-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) have emerged as potential biomarkers for NEC due to their roles in inflammatory response, tissue damage, and immune regulation.

Aim: To evaluate the diagnostic value of SAA, PCT, and HMGB1 in the context of NEC in newborns.

Background: Abnormal endometrial blood flow causes a decrease in endometrial receptivity and is considered a relatively independent risk factor for recurrent implantation failure (RIF). This study aimed to explore the potentially functional circRNA-miRNA-mRNA network in RIF, and further explore its mechanism.

Methods: Datasets were downloaded from the GEO database to identify differentially expressed circRNAs, miRNAs and mRNAs.

Personalized risk prediction for prolonged ileus after minimally invasive colorectal cancer surgery: in-depth risk factor analysis and model development.

Int J Colorectal Dis

July 2024

Department of General Surgery, Qilu Hospital (Qingdao), Cheeloo College of Medicine, Shandong University, Qingdao, 266035, Shandong, China.

Purpose: Despite the increasing preference for minimally invasive surgery for colorectal cancer (CRC), the incidence of prolonged postoperative ileus (PPOI) remains high. Thus, this study aimed to identify risk factors for PPOI in patients with CRC who underwent minimally invasive surgery (MICRS) and to develop a practical nomogram for predicting individual PPOI risk.

Methods: A consecutive series of 2368 patients who underwent MICRS between 2013 and 2023 at two tertiary academic centers were retrospectively studied.
