To investigate the clinical and pathological significance of the DICER1 mutation in follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC). Sixty-eight cases of primary FTC resected between 2009 and 2023 were retrieved from The Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University, Qingdao, China. Sanger sequencing was performed to identify DICER1 and TERT promoter mutations in all cases.

Research Progress of DNA Methylation Markers for Endometrial Carcinoma Diagnosis.

J Cancer

January 2025

Department of Pathology, The seventh Medical Center, Chinese PLA General Hospital, Beijing, 100700, P.R. China.

Endometrial carcinoma (EC) is the most common malignancies of the female reproductive system in developed countries and areas. Ultrasound-guided and hysteroscopic samplings are commonly used to diagnose EC. However, clinicians question their diagnostic efficacy and the associated patient discomfort.

C-Reactive Protein Biosensor for Diagnosing Infections Caused by Orthopedic Trauma.

Curr Med Chem

November 2024

Faculty of Chemical Engineering & Technology & Institute of Nano Electronic Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), 02600 Arau, Perlis Malaysia.

Introduction: Infections linked to orthopedic trauma are common complications that place a significant strain on the healthcare system. Immediate identification of the infection and its severity is essential for providing effective treatment.

Method: C-reactive Protein (CRP) is a commonly used inflammatory marker in orthopedic surgery and has proven to be a valuable biomarker for diagnosing and monitoring infections.

Adequate blood supply and thorough innervation are essential to the survival of tissue-engineered bones. Though great progress has been created in the application of bone tissue engineering technology to bone defect repair, many challenges remain, such as insufficient vascularisation and deficient innervation in newly regenerated bone. In the present study, we addressed these challenges by manipulating the bone regeneration microenvironment in terms of vascularisation and innervation.

Study on the Antibacterial Activity and Bone Inductivity of Nanosilver/PLGA-Coated TI-CU Implants.

Int J Nanomedicine

July 2024

Department of Orthodontics, School and Hospital of Stomatology, Cheeloo College of Medicine, Shandong University, Jinan, Shandong, 250012, People's Republic of China.

Article Synopsis
  • Titanium implants are commonly used in orthopedics and dental fields but face challenges like infection and poor bone integration, which can lead to complications after surgery.
  • The study investigates a titanium-copper alloy implant coated with nanosilver/poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (NSPTICU) to enhance antibacterial properties and promote bone integration.
  • Results show that NSPTICU improves cell differentiation and exhibits strong antibacterial effects, aiding in bone healing and reducing inflammation in animal models.

The objective of this study was to examine the association between the serum copper concentration and the prevalence of diabetes among US adults with hypertension using the data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). The study population was selected from adults aged over 20 years old in the three survey cycles of NHANES from 2011 to 2016. Logistic regression model analyses were applied to determine the independent risky effect of copper to the prevalence of diabetes.

Objective: Teratoma is a type of germ cell tumor that derived from early embryonic stem cells and germ cell lines, which can lead to a rare complication known as paraneoplastic encephalitis syndrome. Delayed removal of teratoma allows for continuing antigen presentation, inducing affinity maturation of the antibody and the generation of long-lived plasma cells that infiltrate both bone marrow and brain, which makes the patient nonresponsive to later removal of teratoma and refractory to immunotherapy. We present this rare case to remind clinicians to be vigilant for the recognition and removal of teratoma during the treatment of autoimmune encephalitis.

Heart failure (HF) represents a group of complex clinical syndromes with high morbidity and mortality and has a significant global health burden. Inflammation and metabolic disorders are closely related to the development of HF, which are complex and depend on the severity and type of HF and common metabolic comorbidities such as obesity and diabetes. An increasing body of evidence indicates the importance of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) in regulating cardiac function.

Potential Mechanisms Between HF and COPD: New Insights From Bioinformatics.

Curr Probl Cardiol

March 2023

Xiyuan Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, Beijing, China; National Clinical Research Center for Chinese Medicine Cardiology, Beijing, China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Heart failure (HF) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) share significant clinical links, and this study explored their common genetic traits and molecular mechanisms.
  • Researchers analyzed gene expression data and identified common differentially expressed genes (DEGs), focusing on the importance of extracellular matrix and ribosomal pathways in both conditions.
  • The study also revealed connections to immune infiltration, particularly involving macrophages, and identified 4 transcription factors and 1408 microRNAs associated with both diseases, suggesting that salbutamol could have a beneficial effect.

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical usefulness of radiomics signature-derived F-fluorodeoxyglucose (F-FDG) positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) for the early prediction of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) outcomes in patients with (BC).

Methods: A total of 124 patients with BC who underwent pretreatment PET-CT scanning and received NAC between December 2016 and August 2019 were studied. The dataset was randomly assigned in a 7:3 ratio to either the training or validation cohort.

Aims: Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) are related conditions with an increasing incidence. The mechanism of their relationship remains undefined. Here, we aimed to explore the potential mechanisms, diagnostic markers, and therapeutic options for HFpEF and NAFLD.

Purpose: Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors have cardiorenal protective effects regardless of whether they are combined with type 2 diabetes mellitus, but their specific pharmacological mechanisms remain undetermined.

Materials And Methods: We used databases to obtain information on the disease targets of "Chronic Kidney Disease," "Heart Failure," and "Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus" as well as the targets of SGLT2 inhibitors. After screening the common targets, we used Cytoscape 3.

This study aimed to explore the effects of exosomes derived from human gingival mesenchymal stem cells (GMSC-Exo) on the inflammatory response of periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs) in an inflammatory microenvironment in order to restore the regenerative potential of PDLSCs, which promotes periodontal tissue regeneration in patients with periodontitis. Periodontitis is a chronic infectious disease characterized by periodontal tissue inflammation and alveolar bone destruction. PDLSCs are regarded as promising seed cells for restoring periodontal tissue defects because of their ability to regenerate cementum/PDL-like tissue and alveolar bone.
