December 2024

State Key Laboratory of Bio-fibers and Eco-textiles, Collaborative Innovation Center of Shandong Marine Biobased Fibers and Ecological Textiles, Institute of Marine Biobased Materials, College of Materials Science and Engineering, Qingdao University, Qingdao, 266071, P. R. China.

Polymer gels, renowned for unparalleled chemical stability and self-sustaining properties, have garnered significant attention in electrocatalysis. Notably, organic polymer gels that exhibit temperature sensitivity and incorporate suitable polar nonvolatile liquids, enhance electronic conductivity, and impart distinct morphological features, but remain largely unexplored as electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). To address this issue, an innovative strategy is proposed for synergistic modulation of the rigidity of mainchain molecular skeleton and length of alkyl sidechains, enabling the development of organogel polymers with a sol-gel temperature-sensitive phase transition that promises high selectivity and enhanced activity in electrocatalytic processes.

Innovation Institute for Sustainable Maritime Architecture Research and Technology, Qingdao University of Technology, Qingdao, China.

Distributed energy resources (DERs) would play a crucial role in the transition towards decentralized and decarbonized energy systems. However, due to the limited availability of long-term, high-resolution datasets, there has been little research on the descriptive analysis of distributed energy systems throughout the lifespan of distributed power generators and beyond. To address this challenge, this study has collected and described a twenty-year dataset (from 2002 to 2021) consisting of hourly energy generation and consumption profiles from a campus distributed energy system, covering the entire lifespan of on-site generators.

Compressive interatomic distance stimulates photocatalytic oxygen-oxygen coupling to hydrogen peroxide.

Sci Bull (Beijing)

December 2024

School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering/Institute of Clean Energy and Materials/Guangzhou Key Laboratory for Clean Energy and Materials/Huangpu Hydrogen Innovation Center, Guangzhou University, Guangzhou 510006, China. Electronic address:

Photocatalytic hydrogen peroxide (HO) generation is largely subject to the sluggish conversion kinetics of the superoxide radical (O) intermediate, which has relatively low reactivity and requires high energy. Here, we present a lattice-strain strategy to accelerate the conversion of O to highly active singlet oxygen(O) by optimizing the distance between two adjacent active sites, thereby stimulating HO generation via low-barrier oxygen-oxygen coupling. As the initial demonstration, the defect-induced strain in ZnInS nanosheet optimizes the distance of two adjacent Zn sites from 3.

The accumulation of microplastics (MPs) in aquatic environments has occurred pervasively. The MPs affect almost all the aquatic plants including the aquatic microorganisms, ultimately disturbing the food chain. Aquatic flora attracts MPs due to the formation of several chemical bonds and interactions, including hydrogen bonds, electrostatic, hydrophobic, and van der Waals.

Transferable adversarial examples, which are generated by transfer-based attacks, have strong adaptability for attacking a completely unfamiliar victim model without knowing its architecture, parameters and outputs. While current transfer-based attacks easily defeat surrogate model with minor perturbations, they struggle to transfer these perturbations to unfamiliar victim models. To characterize these untransferable adversarial examples, which consist of natural examples and perturbations, we define the concept of fuzzy domain.

Coastal Zone Ecological Environment Monitoring Technology and Equipment Shandong Engineering Research Center, CAS Key Laboratory of Coastal Environmental Processes and Ecological Remediation, Research Centre for Coastal Environmental Engineering and Technology, Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Yantai 264003, China. Electronic address:

To address the need for highly sensitive and reliable detection of trace ochratoxin A (OTA) in food matrices, we developed a ratiometric fluorescent aptasensor by integrating CRISPR/Cas12a, hybridization chain reaction (HCR), and horseradish peroxidase (HRP)-induced inner filter effect (IFE). The mechanism involves OTA releasing an activator that initiates CRISPR/Cas12a trans-cleavage, blocking HCR assembly. This reduces HRP levels, limiting the conversion of o-phenylenediamine (OPD) to fluorescent 2,3-diaminophenazine (DAP) (emitting at 562 nm) while maintaining strong emission from 2-amino terephthalic acid (BDC-NH) at 426 nm.

Multiscale Modeling of Heat Conduction in a Hydroxyethyl Cellulose/Boron Nitride Composite Realizing Ultrahigh Thermal Conductivity via a "Moisture-Activated" Strategy.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

December 2024

School of Energy and Materials, Shanghai Key Laboratory of Engineering Materials Application and Evaluation, Shanghai Polytechnic University, Shanghai 201209, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Polymer-based thermally conductive composites are essential in microelectronics for effective heat dissipation, where the arrangement of fillers and their interaction with the polymer matrix significantly influence thermal conductivity.
  • This study focuses on boron nitride (BN) and hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC), revealing that modifying BN improves its thermal conductivity and that careful alignment of BN can enhance conductivity in both directions.
  • Experiments show that BN/HEC composites achieve impressive thermal conductivities and significantly reduce thermal resistance, leading to better thermal management, which can lower the temperature of LED Al substrates by over 15 °C compared to standard composite films.
