Background: Fangji Huangqi Decoction (FJHQD), a famous Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula, has been widely applied in improving renal function. However, the interaction of bioactives from FJHQD with the targets involved in acute renal injury (AKI) has not been elucidated yet.
Purpose: A network pharmacology-based approach combined with molecular docking and in vitro and in vivo validation was performed to determine the bioactives, key targets, and potential pharmacological mechanism of FJHQD against AKI.

Hydrogen peroxide (HO), as a strong oxidant, is crucial for the aerobic metabolism of organisms and is intricately linked to the onset of numerous diseases. Real-time monitor HO levels in the environment and biological microenvironment is of paramount importance for environment protection and elucidating HO-related physiological and pathological processes. In this study, a novel near-infrared fluorescence imaging platform was developed and a near-infrared fluorescent probe FBMH was constructed based on the platform with photoinduced electron transfer mechanism.

Biomarkers contained in human exhaled breath are closely related to certain diseases. As a noninvasive, portable, and efficient health diagnosis method, the breath sensor has received considerable attention in recent years for early disease screening and prevention due to its user-friendly and easy-accessible features. Although some key challenges have been addressed, its capability to precisely monitor specific biomarkers of interest and its physiological relevance to health metrics is still to be ascertained.

Background: Acute febrile illness is a common reason for seeking healthcare in low- and middle-income countries. We describe the diagnostic utility of a TaqMan Array Card (TAC) real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) panel for pathogen detection in paediatric and adult inpatients admitted with febrile illness.
Methods: In this prospective cohort study, we screened medical admissions for a tympanic temperature ≥38.

Background: The current study aimed to examine second breast cancer (SBC) risks associated with breast-conserving surgery (BCS) and unilateral mastectomy among breast cancer (BC) survivors.
Methods: The study enrolled patients with diagnoses of stages I to III BC who underwent surgery between 2000 and 2019. Fine-Gray competing risk regression models were used to estimate the cumulative incidence of SBC and to evaluate the associations between clinical factors and SBC development.

This study examined the effect of obesity on lung ventilation function in middle-aged and older adults using data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study. Lung function was measured using peak expiratory flow, and obesity was assessed using waist circumference and body mass index (BMI). Logistic regression and the bivariate logit model were applied to analyze the data.

Contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CIAKI) is an important clinical complication that occurs after the application of contrast agent in percutaneous coronary intervention. The pathogenesis of CIAKI is complex. Studies have shown that cell apoptosis induced by endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) plays an important role in renal tubular injury in CIAKI.

Sexual activity exists in a complex relationship with human health. This study aims to elucidate the correlation between the sexual frequency and the incidence of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and all-cause mortality among young and middle-aged adults of the United States. We analyzed 17,243 participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(NHANES)(2005-2016), comparing CVD incidence and all-cause mortality risks across sexual frequencies using multivariable Logistic and Cox regression models.

The β-1,4 galactosylation catalyzed by β-1,4 galactosyltransferases (β4Gal-Ts) is not only closely associated with diverse physiological and pathological processes in humans but also widely applied in the -glycan modification of protein glycoengineering. The loop-closing process of β4Gal-Ts is an essential intermediate step intervening in the binding events of donor substrate (UDP-Gal/Mn) and acceptor substrate during its catalytic cycle, with a significant impact on the galactosylation activities. However, the molecular mechanisms in regulating loop-closing dynamics are not entirely clear.

Objective: Deep endometriosis is now referred to as adenomyosis externa, whereas adenomyosis is once known as endometriosis interna. Lysine-specific histone demethylase 1A (KDM1A, commonly LSD1) is a lysine demethylase that targets histone and non-histone proteins. This study aimed to assess how KDM1A affects the migration, invasion, and proliferation of adenomyosis-derived endometrial stromal cells (ESCs).

Although gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) can present with various histological characteristics, GIST mimicking perineurioma has not been previously reported. We present the case of a 47-year-old woman diagnosed with GIST after laparoscopic resection of a stomach tumor near the lesser curvature of the gastric body close to the cardia. Morphological features resembled a perineurioma.

Background: Emerging research indicates that gut microbiota (GM) are pivotal in the regulation of immune-mediated bone diseases. Nonunion, a bone metabolic disorder, has an unclear causal relationship with GM and immune cells. This study aims to elucidate the causal relationship between GM and nonunion using Mendelian Randomization (MR) and to explore the mediating role of immune cells.

Background: Discontinuous transcription allows coronaviruses to efficiently replicate and transmit within host cells, enhancing their adaptability and survival. Assembling viral transcripts is crucial for virology research and the development of antiviral strategies. However, traditional transcript assembly methods primarily designed for variable alternative splicing events in eukaryotes are not suitable for the viral transcript assembly problem.

Background: Previous genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have established association between genetic variants and pulmonary function across various ethnics, whereas such associations are scarcely reported in Chinese adults. Therefore, we conducted an GWAS to explore relationships between genetic variants and pulmonary function among middle-aged Chinese dizygotic twins and further validated the top variants using data from the UK Biobank (UKB).
Methods: In the discovery phase, 139 dizygotic twin pairs were drawn from the Qingdao Twin Registry.
