Association between XRCC1 and XRCC3 gene polymorphisms and risk of thyroid cancer.

We conducted a case-control study to examine the role of genetic polymorphisms in XRCC1 at codons 194 (Arg>Trp), 280 (Arg>His) and 399 (Arg>Gln) and XRCC3 at codon 241 (Thr>Met) in the risk of TC. This study included 276 consecutive primary TC patients and 552 control subjects. The genotypes of XRCC1 at codons 194 (Arg>Trp), 280 (Arg>His) and 399 (Arg>Gln) and XRCC3 at codon 241 (Thr>Met) were analyzed by PCR-RFLP.

Anastomosing hemangioma arising from the kidney: a case of slow progression in four years and review of literature.

Reported herein is a renal anastomosing hemangioma which developed slowly in the past four years. A 25-year-old woman was found a mass localized in the upper portion four years ago, and only slow progression in the past four years. She underwent a laparoscopic partial nephrectomy of right kidney and diagnosed as anastomosing hemangioma.

[Preparation and examination of BMP-2 loaded chitosan nanospheres in vitro].

Purpose: To prepare chitosan nanospheres for loading of BMP-2 and to evaluate its size, zeta potential, appearance, degradation and release characteristic in vitro, and then to investigate its feasibility as a carrier for sustained release of BMP-2.

Methods: The BMP-2 loaded chitosan nanospheres were prepared using ionic crosslinking method with tripolyphosphate (TPP) and chitosan. Transmission electron microscope was used to evaluate the morphological properties, and laser particle size analyzer was used to analyze particle size, Zeta potential and distribution.

[The change of patients' psychosomatic symptoms after orthognathic surgery].

Purpose: To assess the change of patients' psychological status before and after orthognathic surgery.

Methods: The psychological status in 36 patients were assessed before and after orthognathic surgery using the SCL-90 questionnaire. The patients were allowed to evaluate the changes of mastication, facial aesthetics, pronunciation and function of temporomandibular joint subjectively through the questionnaire.

Simultaneous double primary clear cell carcinomas of liver and kidney: a case report and review of literature.

Reported herein are simultaneous double primary clear cell carcinomas arising from liver and kidney. A 63-year-old man underwent a partial wedge nephrectomy of the right kidney in a surgical resection for hepatocellular carcinoma. Coincidently, on histology the tumors in liver and kidney were consisted of clear cancer cells, which arranged in haphazardly intermixed pattern without capsules.

Objectives: This study is to determine if green tea (Camellia sinensis) extracts (GTE) affects adipogenesis and further investigate the related molecular mechanisms.

Methods: Patients with metabolic syndrome were recruited in this study. Of them, 70 patients received GTE and 64 received water to serve as the control group.

CXCL12 chemokine expression suppresses human breast cancer growth and metastasis in vitro and in vivo.

Chemokine receptors are now known to play an important role in cancer growth and metastasis. However, there is little information regarding chemokine expression in breast cancer. The aim of this study was to evaluate CXCL12 expression in breast cancer and to investigate the question of whether reduced expression of CXCL12 may have any pathological significance in breast cancer development or progression.

[Clinical application of submental island flap in repairing oropharynx defects after cancer ablation].

Purpose: To discuss the clinical effects of submental island flap on repairing oropharynx defects after cancer ablation, and provide experience for clinical application.

Methods: Thirteen oropharyngeal cancer patients were included, and they were repaired with submental island flaps in oropharynx regions after cancer ablation and radical neck dissection. Among them, 12 patients were squamous cell carcinoma, and 1 patient was carcinoma.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) predicts high mortality in severely burned patients. Apoptosis plays a significant role during AKI; however, the apoptotic mechanisms underlying AKI induced by burn injury are not clear. Here, we report a critical role for tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL)-Death receptor 5 (DR5) signaling in the pathogenesis of AKI.

Curcumin induces apoptosis in breast cancer cells and inhibits tumor growth in vitro and in vivo.
