Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore how common malocclusion (poor alignment of teeth) is and its relationship with dental caries among 8-9 year olds in the Laoshan district of Qingdao city, providing insight for early orthodontic intervention.
  • A survey of 1,803 children revealed that 73.32% experienced malocclusion, with various classifications noted, and a significant percentage also had dental caries (64.23%).
  • The findings suggest a troubling prevalence of malocclusion in the region, indicating a strong connection between malocclusion and the presence of dental caries.

Purpose: To investigate the symmetry of nasal maxillary complex in the three-dimensional directions of patients with unilateral complete cleft lip and palate(UCLP) at the stage of mixed dentition.

Methods: Craniofacial cone-beam CT(CBCT) images of 20 UCLP patients at the stage of mixed dentition were selected. Three-dimensional reconstruction of bone tissue was carried out by Mimics software, nasal root point and 32 markers with the same name of the healthy side and the cleft side of the nasal maxillary complex were traced, three-dimensional reference planes were set up, then the distances between the points to the three-dimensional planes were measured respectively.

Dentigerous cyst belongs to one kind of odontogenic cysts, and is also known as follicular cyst. After the formation of the crown or root of the tooth, liquid exudates between the residual enamel epithelium and the crown surface to form odontogenic cysts. Multiple odontogenic cysts are rare in the oral and maxillofacial regions, especially in different areas of the jaw.

10,11-Methylenedioxy-camptothecin (FL118) is a novel camptothecin analogue that possesses exceptional antitumor efficacy in human tumor xenograft models. The aim of the current study was to develop novel 20-substituted FL118 derivatives coupled with glycosyl-succinic acid esters with improved antitumor efficacy. These FL118 glycoside derivatives were designed, synthesized and their cytotoxicity evaluated in three tumor cell lines (A-549, MDA-MB-231 and RM-1).

Perineural invasion (PNI) can be found in a variety of malignant tumors. It is a sign of tumor metastasis and invasion and portends the poor prognosis of patients. The pathological description and clinical significance of PNI are clearly understood, but exploration of the underlying molecular mechanism is ongoing.

In this biosensor system, metabolite residues were derived by using a previous B-CBA synthesis method to label a biotin moiety for enrichment by streptavidin coated magnetic beads. Antibodies specific for derivatives were conjugated with carboxyl-modified barcode DNAs which were used as templates for strand displacement amplification (SDA). The assay can detect trace levels of 7.

MicroRNAs (miRs), acting as tumor suppressor or oncogenes genes, play a critical role in controlling tumor invasion, metastasis and survival via regulating a variety of targets. MiR-148a has been observed low expressed in several types of human cancers, and overexpression of miR-148a inhibits tumorigenesis. However, the molecular mechanisms of miR-148a-mediated these effects are largely elusive.

Serum glycoprotein-derived N- and O-linked glycans as cancer biomarkers.

Am J Cancer Res

November 2016

Institute of Cerebrovascular Diseases, Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao UniversityQingdao 266003, China; School of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ocean University of ChinaQingdao 266003, China.

Early detection of cancer is the key to improving survival. Since most clinically used serum cancer biomarkers are either glycoproteins or glycan structures that can be recognized by specific monoclonal antibodies, developing glycan structure-based biomarkers from human serum/plasma glycoproteins through mass spectrometry (MS) analysis are active research field during the past decades. Numerous studies have shown that changes in serum/plasma glycan structures occur during cancer initiation, progression, and treatment.

Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) is one of the most aggressive human cancers and often shows resistance to multimodal therapeutic approaches. It has been shown that the transcriptional repressor Slug inhibits the chemotherapeutic agent-induced apoptosis of cancer cells. We evaluated whether targeting of Slug could augment doxorubicin (DOX)-induced apoptosis of ATC cells.

Pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) is a benign, proliferative disorder of synovium. It often affects the knee, and rarely occurs in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). This paper reported a 45-year-old male patient with PVNS of the TMJ, who was referred with a chief complaint of slowly growing and painless preauricular mass that was noticed about 1 year.

Shanghai Kou Qiang Yi Xue

April 2016

Qingdao Boyite Biological Material Co. Qingdao 266003, Shandong Province, China.

Purpose: This experiment was aimed at exploring whether carboxymethyl chitosan zinc and peptide (CMC-Zn(+)-P) can reduce the occurrence and development of periodontal tissue inflammation effectively by observing the change of IL-1,TNF-α and PGE-2 level in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) before and after brushing, so as to find a new effective material in preventing and treating periodontal diseases.

Methods: Miniature pigs were selected as experimental subjects and divided into 4 groups randomly: the control group; CMC-Zn(+)-P group (material group);brushing group; brushing + CMC-Zn(+)-P group (composite group). Gingival crevicular fluid before and one month after the experiment was collected.

Objective: Since that we have previously found CXCL12/CXCR4, an important biological axis is highly transcribed in several cancer cells. We aim to investigate whether CXCL12/CXCR4 axis regulates critical processes in neoplastic transformation that affects endometrial cancer cell biology.

Methods: The expression levels of CXCR4 were analyzed in human normal endometrial tissue, simple hyperplasia, atypical hyperplasia and endometrial cancer cells by immunohistochemistry and reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).
