Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) fermentation enhances the flavour and functionality of juice substrates; however, research on hawthorn juice is limited. We hypothesize that due to strain specificity, the changes in hawthorn juice after fermentation with different LAB may vary. After selecting LAB strains based on pH and sensory evaluation, the physicochemical properties and anti-inflammatory potential in a lipopolysaccharide-induced RAW 264.

Article Synopsis
  • Scientists studied the brain structure of Chinese children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) using advanced technology and machine learning to help diagnose them.
  • They looked at 60 kids with ASD and 48 kids without, comparing their brain sizes through special scans.
  • The study found that certain areas of the brains of kids with ASD were bigger, and two machine learning techniques, called SVM and adaboost, were really good at telling apart the kids with ASD from those developing normally.

Purpose: To compare the effects of deep learning image reconstruction (DLIR) and adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction V (ASiR-V) on image quality in low-dose computed tomography (CT) of paranasal sinuses in children.

Methods: Low-dose CT scans of the paranasal sinuses in 25 pediatric patients were retrospectively evaluated. The raw data were reconstructed with three levels of DLIR (high, H; medium, M; and low, L), filtered back projection (FBP), and ASiR-V (30% and 50%).
