This study investigates the link between specific genetic variations (SNPs) in the IFN-γ gene and the likelihood of developing cirrhosis due to hepatitis B in a Chinese population.
Researchers used a genotyping technique on 230 patients with HBV-related cirrhosis and 320 healthy carriers, finding significant differences in allele and genotype distributions between the two groups.
The results suggest that certain genotypes (AG, GG) and alleles (G) increase the risk for cirrhosis, while the AA haplotype appears to provide some protection against the disease.
