Objective: This paper examined miR-181a expression in the serum of patients with acute liver failure (ALF) and investigated the impact of its expression in the prognosis of ALF patients.
Methods: A total of 112 ALF patients (ALF group) and 100 healthy controls during the same period (control group) were recruited as study subjects, and ALF patients were separated into the survival group and the death group. Serum ALT, AST, SCr, TBil, PTA, and International Normalized Ratio (INR) indices as well as serum miR-181a expression were assessed by using a fully automated biochemistry analyzer and RT-qPCR.

Herein, we developed a new non-invasive model for predicting CSPH in patients with compensated cirrhosis and investigated whether carvedilol can prevent hepatic decompensation in patients with high-risk CSPH stratified using the new model.
Methods: Non-invasive risk factors of CSPH were identified via systematic review and meta-analysis of studies involving patients with hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG).

Clonorchiasis, an important foodborne parasitic disease, is prevalent in several Asian countries. In China, the three provinces with the highest incidence are Guangdong, Guangxi, and Heilongjiang, with no reported cases in Qingdao for nearly a decade. In this study, a 29-year-old male patient was diagnosed with fatty liver due to abnormal liver function during physical examination and was admitted to the hospital multiple times for examination and treatment within 3 years, but his liver function did not improve.

Methods: Patients with decompensated cirrhosis who were admitted to our hospital and Qu fu People's Hospital from June 2022 to June 2023 were included in this study. Among them, there were 45 male and 15 female patients, with a median age of 56 (range: 35-77) years.

We report a case of hemophagocytic syndrome (HPS) secondary to brucellosis, in which typhoidal cells were found in bone marrow, suggesting typhoidal cells present not only in infections but also in other bacterial infections. Typhoidal cells in bone marrow can be used to quickly identify the presence of bacterial infection pending the results of bone marrow and/or blood cultures.

Background: It has been demonstrated that thymosin β4 (Tβ4) could inflect the severity of acute-on-chronic hepatitis B liver failure (ACHBLF), but the relationship between its methylation status and the prognosis of liver failure is not clear. This study aimed to determine Tβ4 promoter methylation status in patients with ACHBLF and to evaluate its prognostic value.
Methods: The study recruited 115 patients with ACHBLF, 80 with acute-on-chronic hepatitis B pre-liver failure (pre-ACHBLF), and 86 with chronic hepatitis B (CHB).

Nowadays, microRNA-375 (miR-375) has been implicated in many types of cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and the functions of miRNAs encapsulated by extracellular vesicles (EV) in HCC progression have also been extensively investigated. In this research, we aimed to probe into the mechanism of EV-encapsulated miR-375 from bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) in HCC progression. At first, miR-375 expression in HCC tissues and cells was detected using RT-qPCR, and miR-375 was overexpressed to specify the effects of miR-375 on the malignant phenotype of HCC cells.
