N6-methyladenosine (mA) is one of the most prevalent modifications found in eukaryotic mRNA and has been implicated in the regulation of cell proliferation, development, invasion, apoptosis, and immunity. In this study, we first conducted a structural and evolutionary analysis of Wilms' tumour 1-associating protein (WTAP) in vertebrates, and the results showed that WTAP in vertebrates is conserved particularly in mammals and fish. We subsequently investigated the involvement of WTAP in the antiviral immune response of fish and discovered that the expression of Miichthys miiuy (mmiWTAP) decreased in response to stimulation with Siniperca chuatsi rhabdovirus (SCRV) and poly(I:C).

This study analyzed the relationship between the oxygen minimum zone (OMZ) and various types of carbon, such as POC, DOC, and DIC, in the Y3 seamount area in the Western Pacific. The results indicated that the OMZ was located at 200-1000 m and a threshold of 100 μmol/kg was established for this area of the Western Pacific. The DOC and POC changed drastically out of OMZ while they were relatively stable within the OMZ due to the low oxygen.

Owing to the inaccessibility of β1-4-N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase for direct glycan chain elongation, the enzymatic synthesis of 0-series gangliosides with extended backbones has not been explored. In this study, sialic acid was enzymatically introduced as an auxiliary group to overcome the limitation of substrate specificity of Campylobacter jejuni β1-4-N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase (CjCgtA) to achieve the synthesis of desired extended 0-series ganglioside core structures, and the sialic acid auxiliary group could be removed by sialidase at appropriate stages. A bacterial α2-6-sialyltransferase from Photobacterium damselae (Pd2,6ST) exhibited unexpected acceptor substrate specificity for 0-series ganglioside core structures, providing ready access to complex gangliosides bearing the sialyl N-acetylgalactosamine unit.

Although an established model organism, remains comparatively inaccessible to high throughput screens, and alternative bioinformatic approaches still rely on unconnected datasets and outdated algorithms. Here, we report a new approach to consolidating RNA-seq and microarray data based on a systematic exploration of parameters and computational controls, enabling us to infer functional gene associations from their co-expression patterns. The CoA thioester of 2-(carboxymethyl)cyclohexane-1-carboxylic acid has been identified as a metabolite in anaerobic naphthalene degradation by the sulfate-reducing culture N47. This study identified and characterised two acyl-CoA dehydrogenases (ThnO/ThnT) and an intramolecular CoA-transferase (ThnP) encoded within the substrate-induced thn operon, which contains genes for anaerobic degradation of naphthalene. ThnP is a CoA transferase belonging to the family I (Cat 1 subgroup) that catalyses the intramolecular CoA transfer from the carboxyl group of 2-(carboxymethyl)cyclohexane-1-carboxyl-CoA to its carboxymethyl moiety, forming 2-carboxycyclohexylacetyl-CoA.

To explore the response of dissolved heavy metals (HMs) along the Yellow Sea coast to seawater characteristics, we assessed the temporal and spatial variations as well as pollution levels of six dissolved HMs (Cu, Zn, Pb, Cd, Hg, and As) in surface seawater from 2021 to 2023. The results indicated that the average concentrations of HMs in the seawater were ranked as follows: Zn > Cu > As > Pb > Cd > Hg, with specific concentration ranges of 4.70-7.

Surprisingly, we identified a pyruvate-regulated glutathione system that occurs by boosting glycine, serine, and threonine metabolism. Moreover, cysteine and methionine metabolism played a key role in this reversal.

In this study, we identified and characterized a goose-type lysozyme gene (SsLyG) from the black rockfish Sebastes schlegelii, an economically important aquaculture species.
