For patients with resectable locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), the current standard treatment is neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) plus radical surgery. This study aimed to establish a predictive model, based on computed tomography (CT) radiomics features and clinical parameters, to predict sensitivity to nCRT in patients with ESCC pre-treatment. The goal was to provide risk stratification and decision-making recommendations for clinical treatments and offer more valuable information for developing personalized therapies.

During invisalign treatment, as salivary proteins or glycoproteins fill the space between the teeth and the aligners, they can easily adhere to the teeth, forming an acquired cellular film on which bacteria are highly susceptible to colonizing, which in turn leads to the development of enamel white staining lesions (WSLs), one of the major complications of orthodontic treatment. Inhibiting the activity of cariogenic bacteria while promoting the remineralization of demineralized enamel is the key to preventing and treating WSLs. Currently, the drug commonly used in clinical practice for the treatment of WSLs is silver diamine fluoride, which, although it has both antimicrobial and remineralizing effects, suffers from problems such as pulpal irritation and tooth discoloration.

Introduction: Although programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) inhibitor plus chemotherapy regimen is a promising strategy for malignant tumors, it can induce significant immune-related adverse events, such as immune-related pneumonitis. Here, we report the first case of lethal immune-related pneumonitis in an Asian patient receiving anti-PD-L1 treatment.

Case Presentation: A 68-year-old man was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer and interstitial pneumonia.

Objective: The influencing factors of quality of life (QOL) in patients with type 2 diabetic nephropathy (T2DN) were explored, a practical risk prediction model was constructed and independent verification was conducted.

Methods: The clinical data of 273 patients with T2DN in Tai'an Maternal and Child Health Care Center from February 2021 to February 2023 were used for retrospective analysis, and the patients were divided into modelling group (n = 173) and validation group (n = 100). According to 36-item short form health survey (SF-36) scores, the research subjects in the modelling group were divided further into poor group (n = 78) and good group (n = 95).

Diabetes is caused by peripheral insulin resistance and lack of insulin secretion due to the apoptosis of pancreatic beta cells. Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), a pro-inflammatory cytokine secreted from the tissue on the insulin signaling pathway, can play a role in causing fat resistance to insulin in type 2 diabetes patients. Adiponectin is a specific protein of adipose tissue.

Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a common complication in patients with lung cancer. The important roles of microRNAs (miRNAs) in VTE have emerged, however, studies about the roles of miRNAs in VTE remain scarce. This study aimed to measure the expression of miR-483-5p in lung cancer patients with VTE, evaluate whether miR-483-5p could predict VTE onset in patients, and further evaluate its predictive value in patients with different BMI values.

Neuromuscular electrical stimulation effect on mRNA expression of skeletal muscle in elderly.

Cell Mol Biol (Noisy-le-grand)

September 2022

Department of Gynecology, Jiaozhou Peoples Hospital, Qingdao, Yunxi Henan Road, Jiaozhou City, Qingdao 266300, China.

Considering the increasing number of elderly in the world, this research aimed to investigate the effect of neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) on changes in muscle mRNA abundance of a number of gene targets for improving the balance of the elderly. Twenty-six elderly undertook 30 minutes of quadriceps NMES (50 Hz, current at the limit of tolerance). Vastus lateralis muscle biopsies were obtained at rest immediately before and 24 hours after the intervention.

Since abdominal muscle training is one of the most important ways to treat rectal diastasis, it is necessary to design and provide appropriate exercises to treat this problem. One of the complementary methods to achieve higher intensity training is the use of electrical muscle stimulation along with voluntary activity, which causes maximum recall in muscle units. Therefore, in the current study, the effect of electrical stimulation followed by exercises was evaluated in postnatal diastasis recti abdominis via MMP2 gene expression.

Objective: To compare the application value of dynamic enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and ultrasonic diffused optical tomography (DOT) in early diagnosis of breast cancer.

Methods: The clinical data of 110 female patients with breast diseases treated in our hospital from June 2018 to June 2021 were selected for the retrospective analysis, and the patients were divided into the benign lesion group ( = 50) and breast cancer group ( = 60) according to the pathologic findings. All patients received dynamic enhanced MRI and ultrasonic DOT examinations for the observation of lesion morphology and analysis of relevant parameters, so as to scientifically evaluate the diagnostic value of dynamic enhanced MRI and ultrasonic DOT for early breast cancer.

Doxorubicin (DOX) has been widely recognized as effective in anticancer therapy; however, the additional organ toxicity and low targeting of DOX in antitumor activity remains unaddressed. The aim of this study was to use the drug carrier dextran/polylactic acid (DEX/PLA) and paramagnetic Fe3O4 to improve the targeting of DOX in liver cancer treatment while reducing its potential organ toxicity. Our experimental results show that the combination drug (Fe3O4@DEX/PLA-DOX) exhibits strong hepatocarcinogenic inhibition and low cytotoxicity and that this modified drug provides a better option for clinical liver cancer treatment.
