Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the role of the long noncoding RNA SBF2-AS1 in the progression of gastric cancer (GC), revealing its high expression in both GC cell lines and tissues.
  • SBF2-AS1 knockdown led to reduced cell invasion and proliferation, and increased apoptosis in GC cells, indicating its importance in malignant progression.
  • The research also found that SBF2-AS1 is linked to the Wnt/LRP5 signaling pathway, and its knockdown inhibited this pathway, suggesting that SBF2-AS1 promotes GC by activating Wnt/LRP5 signaling.

Emerging trophic activities of mesencephalic astrocyte-derived neurotrophic factor in tissue repair and regeneration.

Int Immunopharmacol

January 2023

School of Medicine, Ningbo University, Ningbo, Zhejiang 315211, PR China; The Affiliated Hospital of Medical School, Ningbo University, Ningbo, PR China. Electronic address:

Mesencephalic astrocyte-derived neurotrophic factor (MANF) is a soluble endoplasmic reticulum (ER) luminal protein and its expression and secretion can be induced by ER stress. Despite initially being classified as a neurotrophic factor, MANF has been demonstrated to have restorative and protective effects in many different cell types such as neurons, liver cells, retinal cells, cardiac myocytes, and pancreatic β cells. However, underlying molecular mechanisms are complex and remain incompletely understood.

Supramolecular catalytic nanomedicines based on coordination self-assembly of amino acids for cascade-activated and -amplified synergetic cancer therapy.

December 2022

State Key Laboratory of Bio-fibers and Eco-textiles, Institute of Biochemical Engineering, The Affiliated Qingdao Central Hospital of Qingdao University, College of Materials Science and Engineering, Qingdao University, Qingdao 266071, China.

Simple biomolecule-based supramolecular nanomedicines hold great promise in cancer therapy, but their clinical translation is greatly hindered by low tumor-specificity and unsatisfactory antitumor performance. Herein, we developed an amino acid basedsupramolecular nanomedicine that could be co-activated by multiple stimuli in tumor tissue to trigger cascade catalytic reactions for synergetic therapy. The supramolecular nanomedicine was developed based on a combination of coordination and hydrophobic noncovalent interactions among amphiphilic amino acids, glucose oxidase (GOx), copper ions, as well as doxorubicin (DOX)-camptothecin (CPT) prodrugs.

Natural polymer-based sutures have attractive cytocompatibility and degradability in surgical operations. Herein, anionic cellulose nanofibrils (ACNF) and cationic guar gum (CGG) are employed to produce nontoxic CGG/ACNF composite filament with a unique core-shell structure via interfacial polyelectrolyte complexation (IPC) spinning. The comprehensive characterization and application performance of the resultant CGG/ACNF filament as a surgical suture are thoroughly investigated in comparison with silk and PGLA (90% glycolide and 10% l-lactide) sutures in vitro and in vivo, respectively.

Due to the evolutionary arms race between hosts and viruses, viruses must adapt to host translation systems to rapidly synthesize viral proteins. Highly expressed genes in hosts have a codon bias related to tRNA abundance, the primary RNA translation rate determinant. We calculated the relative synonymous codon usage (RSCU) of three hepatitis viruses (HAV, HBV, and HCV), SARS-CoV-2, 30 human tissues, and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Mistakenly picking and eating poisonous mushrooms can cause acute poisoning. In August 2020, Qingdao Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine handled a poisonous mushroom poisoning incident, conducted epidemiological investigation on all poisoned patients, collected suspicious food, clinical manifestations, clinical test results and treatment conditions, and identified the mushrooms as Amanita fuliginea poisoning after morphological identification. In this incident, 6 people ate grey goose paste, of which 4 were sick with a incubation period of 6~12 h.

The purpose of this study was to explore the value of extended care based on a biopsychosocial medicine model in patients with abnormal tumor markers on physical examination. One hundred and fifty-two cases with abnormal primary screening tumor markers who were examined in our medical examination center between January 2020 and January 2022 were selected as the subjects of this study and divided into intervention and control groups according to the random number table method, with 76 cases in each group. The control group was given the usual extended care intervention and the intervention group was given the extended care intervention based on the biopsychosocial medicine model.

The prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) is increasing rapidly worldwide, but the underlying molecular mechanisms of disease development have not been elucidated, and the current popular anti-diabetic approaches still have non-negligible limitations. In the last decades, several different DM models were established on the classic model animal, the fruit fly (), which provided a convenient way to study the mechanisms underlying diabetes and to discover and evaluate new anti-diabetic compounds. In this article, we introduce the Diabetes model from three aspects, including signal pathways, established methods, and pharmacodynamic evaluations.

Hypertension is a common cause of kidney injury and renal damage occurs earlier and is more serious in patients with hypertension and hyperhomocysteinaemia (HHCY). Folic acid (FA) is widely used to ameliorate the organ damage caused by HHCY. However, the effective dose of FA remains controversial and certain studies have suggested that FA increases the risk of cancer.
