Objective of the present study was to investigate the effects of peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) parenteral nutrition support on immune function and nutritional support in patients undergoing radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer. 140 patients who underwent radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer were selected as participants and were divided into study group and the control group by random number table, with 70 cases in each group. Patients in the two groups underwent standard gastrectomy under general anesthesia by the same group of doctors.

BACKGROUND Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is due to age-related atrophy and the weakening of the tissues of the pelvic floor, with degradation of collagen and extracellular matrix (ECM) by metalloproteinases (MMPs). This study aimed to investigates the role of the age-related enzyme klotho, encoded by the KL gene, in cultured fibroblasts obtained from patients with POP and the levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and MMPs. MATERIAL AND METHODS Pelvic floor fibroblasts were obtained from connective tissue from three patients with POP and three normal subjects.

Propofol Alleviates Apoptosis Induced by Chronic High Glucose Exposure via Regulation of HIF-1 in H9c2 Cells.

Oxid Med Cell Longev

Department of Internal and Emergency Medicine, Shanghai General Hospital (Originally Named Shanghai First People's Hospital), Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Shanghai, China.

Background: The sedative anesthetic, propofol, is a cardioprotective agent for hyperglycemia-induced myocardial hypertrophy and dysfunction in rats. However, the specific protective mechanism has not been clarified.

Methods And Results: In this experiment, we used H9c2 cells subjected to 22 mM glucose lasting for 72 hours as an in vitro model of cardiomyocyte injury by hyperglycemia and investigated the potential mechanism of propofol against hyperglycemic stress in cells.

Ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury induces irreversible oxidative stress damage to the cardiac myocytes. Many studies have revealed that propofol alleviates the important organelle-mediated injury from oxidative stress . However, it remains unclear whether propofol prevents I/R-induced DNA damage in cardiomyocytes.

The cardioprotective effect of propofol on ischemia-reperfusion injury (I/R injury) is partly due to suppressing apoptosis. Mitochondrial dynamics are also involved in apoptosis. Mitochondrial fusion and fission lead to mitochondrial morphological changes.

Hydroxysafflor Yellow A (HSYA) Improves Learning and Memory in Cerebral Ischemia Reperfusion-Injured Rats via Recovering Synaptic Plasticity in the Hippocampus.

Front Cell Neurosci

October 2018

Shanghai Key Laboratory of Brain Functional Genomics, Ministry of Education, School of Life Sciences, East China Normal University, Shanghai, China.

Hydroxysafflor yellow A (HSYA) is the major active chemical component of the safflower plant flower, which is widely used in Chinese medicine for cerebrovascular and cardiovascular disease treatment. Recent studies have demonstrated that HSYA exerts neuroprotective effect on cerebral ischemia, such as neuronal anti-apoptosis, antioxidant activity and oxygen free radical-scavenging. However, whether and how HSYA has a protective effect on cognitive impairment induced by cerebral ischemia reperfusion remains elusive.

Background/purpose: Nemonoxacin is a novel nonfluorinated quinolone with excellent in vitro activity against most pathogens in community-acquired pneumonia (CAP), especially Gram-positive isolates. The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of nemonoxacin compared with levofloxacin in patients with CAP.

Methods: A phase 3, multicenter, randomized (2:1) controlled trial was conducted in adult CAP patients receiving nemonoxacin 500 mg or levofloxacin 500 mg orally once daily for 7-10 days.

Alisol A 24-acetate (AA), a natural triterpenoid isolated from the traditional Chinese medicine Rhizoma Alismatis, has various therapeutic effects. We investigated the anti-nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) effect of AA and its underlying mechanisms in vitro and in vivo. C57BL/6 mice were fed a methionine and choline-deficient (MCD) diet for 4 weeks to induce NASH.

Chin J Integr Med

September 2018

Shanghai Key Laboratory of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shanghai, 201203, China.

Objective: To evaluate the preventive effect of salvianolate (Sal B) on glucose metabolism disorders of dimethylnitrosamine (DMN)-induced cirrhotic rats.

Methods: Fifty-five Wistar rats were randomly divided into a control group (n=10) and a cirrhotic group (n=45) according to a random number table. Liver cirrhosis was induced by intraperitoneal administration of DMN.

Background: Multi-voxel pattern analysis (MVPA) provides a powerful tool to investigate neural mechanisms for various cognitive processes under functional brain imaging. However, the high sensitivity of the MVPA method could bring about false positive results, which has been overlooked by previous research.

Objective: We investigated the potential for obtaining false positives from the MVPA method.

Among a number of clinical factors, bacterial infection is one of the most common causes of acute lung injury (ALI), a serious complication that carries a high risk of mortality (~40%). During the process of ALI, intense local and systemic inflammation is elicited, which exacerbates the injury. Neutrophil infiltration into airspace is observed in early stage of ALI, and is required for the full development of ALI through an array of mechanisms, including the release of granule contents and the production of pro‑inflammatory cytokines, due to the overactivation of complement and cytokines.

The aim of the study was to examine the mechanism of action of Lidan Granule (LDG) for the prevention of gallstones using a guinea pig model. One hundred guinea pigs were divided into five groups randomly: control (standard diet and saline), model [lithogenic diet (LD) and saline], LDG-H (LD and 2 g/kg of LDG), LDG-L (LD and 1 g/kg of LDG), and ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) (LD and UDCA) as the positive control. At 6 weeks, the rate of gallstone formation and weight of the adrenal gland were recorded and serum levels of inflammatory cytokines were measured.
