TAT-Modified Martentoxin Displays Intravenous Antiseizure Activities.

ACS Chem Neurosci

January 2024

State Key Laboratory of Chemical Biology, Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai 200032, China.

Epilepsy is a chronic disease of brain dysfunction, which arises from imbalance between excitatory and inhibitory activities in neural circuits. Previously, we reported that peptide Martentoxin (MarTX), from scorpion Buthus martensii Karsch, displayed antiseizure activities by specifically inhibiting BK(α + β4) channel currents. Injection of MarTX into the hippocampal region of mice significantly alleviated convulsive seizures.

Tetrahydrobiopterin inhibitor-based antioxidant metabolic strategy for enhanced cancer ferroptosis-immunotherapy.

J Colloid Interface Sci

March 2024

School of Pharmacy, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, 800 Dongchuan Road, Shanghai 200240, China. Electronic address:

The induction of immunogenic ferroptosis in cancer cell is limited by the complex and delicate antioxidant system in the organism. Synergistic induction of oxidative damage and inhibition of the defensive redox system in tumor cells is critical to promote lethal accumulation of lipid peroxides and activate immunogenic death (ICD). To address this challenge, we present a multifunctional and dual-responsive layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanosheet to enhance immunogenic ferroptosis.

  • Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting airways, and Sanzi Yangqin Decoction (SZYQD) is frequently used for treatment, though its mechanisms are not fully understood.
  • A network pharmacological approach identified 28 active components and 111 target genes in SZYQD, highlighting three key ingredients and nine core target genes linked to its effects on asthma.
  • Experimental results from both a mouse model and in vitro studies showed that SZYQD effectively reduces inflammation and mucus production, suggesting its potential as an anti-asthma treatment.

Objectives: The aim of the present study was to determine the clinical value of a novel hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) target EH domain-containing protein 2 (EHD2) for predicting the outcome of patients with clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC).

Materials And Methods: GEPIA public database was searched to determine a possible association between HIF2Α and EHD protein family members, and kidney renal clear cell carcinoma data were used to find the expression profile of EHD proteins in ccRCC samples. A tissue microarray from 70 ccRCC samples was used for immunohistochemical analysis to determine the specific expression pattern of EHD2 in ccRCC samples.

Introduction: Obesity has been historically associated with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), but it can also occur in lean individuals. However, limited data is available on this special group. To investigate the clinical and proteomic characteristics of lean subjects with NAFLD, and to identify potential clinical variables and plasma proteins for diagnosing NAFLD in lean individuals, we collected clinical data from a large cohort of 2,236 subjects.

Although some studies in China have suggested Huachansu (HCS) combined with chemotherapy is effective in the treatment of various cancers, there are few studies on colorectal cancer (CRC), especially in postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy. The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that HCS combined with adjuvant chemotherapy would improve survival probability in resected CRC patients. This was a prospective, open-label, randomized phase II study.

Sequential Rocket-Mode Bioactivating Ticagrelor Prodrug Nanoplatform Combining Light-Switchable Diphtherin Transgene System for Breast Cancer Metastasis Inhibition.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

November 2023

Shanghai Frontier Science Research Base of Optogenetic Techniques for Cell Metabolism, School of Pharmacy, East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai 200237, China.

The increased risk of breast cancer metastasis is closely linked to the effects of platelets. Our previously light-switchable diphtheria toxin A fragment (DTA) gene system, known as the LightOn system, has demonstrated significant therapeutic potential; it lacks antimetastatic capabilities. In this study, we devised an innovative system by combining cell membrane fusion liposomes (CML) loaded with the light-switchable transgene DTA (pDTA) and a ticagrelor (Tig) prodrug.

The failure of orthopedic implants is usually caused by inflammation, poor tissue integration, and infection, which can lead to pain, limited mobility, dysfunction of patients. This may require additional surgical interventions, such as removal, replacement, or repair of implants, as well as related treatment measures such as antibiotic therapy, physical therapy. Here, an injectable hydrogel carrier was developed for the steady release of inflammatory regulators to reduce the surface tissue inflammatory response of orthopedic implants and induce soft tissue regeneration, ultimately achieving the promotion of implants stability.
