Article Synopsis
  • A 70-year-old male with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) experienced peripheral neurotoxicity after receiving albumin-bound paclitaxel, leading to limb weakness and numbness.
  • *After switching to a regimen of liposomal paclitaxel, cisplatin, and tislelizumab, his symptoms improved.
  • *The tumor showed a partial response, suggesting that the new treatment may help manage neurotoxicity while effectively treating NSCLC.

Background: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are critical regulators of lung adenocarcinoma (LA) progression. Although a molecular marker targeting hsa_circ_0000018 has been developed and used for diagnosing colon cancer, the role of this circRNA in LA progression has not been explored till now.

Objectives: This study aimed to elucidate the role and regulatory mechanisms of hsa_circ_0000018 in LA progression.

Compelling evidence indicates the regulatory role of circular RNAs in cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Our study aimed to elucidate the regulatory function of circ_0129047 in HCC progression. A reverse transcription-quantitative polymeric chain reaction was conducted to detect the expression of circ_0129047, lymphatic vessel endothelial hyaluronan receptor-1 (LYVE1), and miR-492 in HCC tissues and cells.

We investigated the effects of vitamin A (VA) status on metabolism of Zucker rats with different genders and genotypes, and of short-term refeeding of a VA sufficient (VAS) diet on VA deficient (VAD) animals. First, male and female Zucker lean (ZL) and fatty (ZF) rats at weaning were fed a VAD or VAS diet for 8 weeks. Second, male VAD ZL rats were fed a VAS diet for 3 (VAD-VAS3d) or 7 (VAD-VAS7d) days.

Urotensin II level is elevated in inflammatory bowel disease patients.

World J Gastroenterol

September 2022

Department of Nutrition, The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN 37996, United States.

It was reported that the urotensin II (U-II) level in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients are significantly higher than in controls. To provide future guidance for the management of cardiovascular risk factors in IBD patients, the sample size of the current study appears to be limited, and more clinical samples to compare U-II levels in IBD patients and controls are needed. This will clarify the possible roles of inflammation factors and related signaling pathways (like EPK1/2, NF-κB and Rho/ROCK) in the pathophysiology of IBD.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) has a low five-year survival rate, and its pathogenesis remains unclear. There is an urgent need to improve our understanding of the genetic regulation of NPC tumorigenesis and development. The role of miR-26a-5p in NPC growth regulation and the expression of its target, PTGS2, was analyzed.

MicroRNA-451a (miR-451a) has been implicated in the initiation and progression of multiple cancers. However, the regulatory mechanisms underlying its function in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) are poorly understood. Thus, we investigated in detail the role of the microRNA-451a/chromosome segregation 1-like (miR-45a/CSE1L) axis and its regulatory mechanism in NPC.

Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is the primary culprit of low back pain and renders heavy social burden worldwide. Pyroptosis is a newly discovered form of programmed cell death, which is also involved in nucleus pulposus (NP) cells during IDD progression. Moderate autophagy activity is critical for NP cell survival, but its relationship with pyroptosis remains unknown.

Objective: We aimed to evaluate the advantages of preoperative digital design of skin flaps to repair fingertip defects during the COVID-19 pandemic. We combined digital design with a 3D-printed model of the affected finger for preoperative communication with fingertip defect patients under observation in a buffer ward.

Methods: From December 2019 to January 2021, we obtained data from 25 cases of 30 fingertip defects in 15 males and 10 females, aged 20-65 years old (mean 35 ± 5 years).

PXDN reduces autophagic flux in insulin-resistant cardiomyocytes via modulating FoxO1.

Cell Death Dis

April 2021

Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, Changsha, Hunan, China.

Autophagy, a well-observed intracellular lysosomal degradation process, is particularly important to the cell viability in diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM). Peroxidasin (PXDN) is a heme-containing peroxidase that augments oxidative stress and plays an essential role in cardiovascular diseases, while whether PXDN contributes to the pathogenesis of DCM remains unknown. Here we reported the suppression of cell viability and autophagic flux, as shown by autophagosomes accumulation and increased expression level of LC3-II and p62 in cultured H9C2 and human AC16 cells that treated with 400 μM palmitate acid (PA) for 24 h.
