Combined Forward-Backward Asymmetry Measurements in Top-Antitop Quark Production at the Tevatron.

Phys Rev Lett

January 2018

Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare Bologna, I-40127 Bologna, Italy.

The CDF and D0 experiments at the Fermilab Tevatron have measured the asymmetry between yields of forward- and backward-produced top and antitop quarks based on their rapidity difference and the asymmetry between their decay leptons. These measurements use the full data sets collected in proton-antiproton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s]=1.96  TeV.

The production of jets in association with Z bosons, reconstructed via the μ^{+}μ^{-} and e^{+}e^{-} decay channels, is studied in pp and, for the first time, in Pb-Pb collisions. Both data samples were collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV.

Searches are presented for direct production of top or bottom squark pairs in proton-proton collisions at the CERN LHC. Two searches, based on complementary techniques, are performed in all-jet final states that are characterized by a significant imbalance in transverse momentum. An additional search requires the presence of a charged lepton isolated from other activity in the event.

Charge-dependent azimuthal particle correlations with respect to the second-order event plane in p-Pb and PbPb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV have been studied with the CMS experiment at the LHC. The measurement is performed with a three-particle correlation technique, using two particles with the same or opposite charge within the pseudorapidity range |η|<2.

A first search for pair production of dark matter candidates through vector boson fusion in proton-proton collisions at sqrt[s]=8  TeV is performed with the CMS detector. The vector boson fusion topology enhances missing transverse momentum, providing a way to probe supersymmetry, even in the case of a compressed mass spectrum. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 18.

Background: "Watchful waiting" or "active surveillance" is an alternative approach in the medical management of certain diseases. Most often considered appropriate as an approach to treatment for low-risk prostate cancer, it is also found in the literature in breast cancer surveillance, urinary lithiasis, lymphocytic leukemia, depression and small renal tumors.

Objectives: This systematic review sought to:Identify and synthesize the best available international evidence on the experience of adults who choose watchful waiting or active surveillance as an approach to medical treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted on proton-proton collisions at 8 TeV to search for narrow resonances decaying into dijet final states, using data from the CMS detector with a total integrated luminosity of 18.8 fb^{-1}.
  • The researchers utilized a novel data scouting technique to efficiently collect large amounts of data by streamlining the event information, which enhanced the detection of low-mass resonances at a higher rate.
  • The analysis resulted in no evidence for narrow resonances in the dijet mass distribution, and upper limits on resonance cross sections and couplings, specifically for a leptophobic resonance Z_{B}^{'}, were established, surpassing previous experimental results for masses between 500 and 800 GeV.

New sets of parameters ("tunes") for the underlying-event (UE) modelling of the pythia8, pythia6 and herwig++ Monte Carlo event generators are constructed using different parton distribution functions. Combined fits to CMS UE proton-proton ([Formula: see text]) data at [Formula: see text] and to UE proton-antiproton ([Formula: see text]) data from the CDF experiment at lower [Formula: see text], are used to study the UE models and constrain their parameters, providing thereby improved predictions for proton-proton collisions at 13[Formula: see text]. In addition, it is investigated whether the values of the parameters obtained from fits to UE observables are consistent with the values determined from fitting observables sensitive to double-parton scattering processes.

Article Synopsis
  • Interstitial renal fibrosis is a significant issue in Chronic Kidney Disease and diabetic nephropathy, where adenosine signaling plays a crucial role in the disease's progression.
  • Research using the NRK-49F renal fibroblast cell line shows that only adenosine receptors A1 and A2B are present under normal conditions, with A2B enhancing cAMP levels while A1 inhibits it.
  • Activation of the A2B receptor leads to increased levels of pro-fibrotic and inflammatory markers, suggesting that adenosine signaling contributes to the activation of fibroblasts, promoting further renal damage.

We report evidence for a narrow structure, X(5568), in the decay sequence X(5568)→B_{s}^{0}π^{±}, B_{s}^{0}→J/ψϕ, J/ψ→μ^{+}μ^{-}, ϕ→K^{+}K^{-}. This is evidence for the first instance of a hadronic state with valence quarks of four different flavors. The mass and natural width of this state are measured to be m=5567.

June 2017

Professor, Hahn School of Nursing and Beyster Institute for Nursing Research, University of San Diego, San Diego, CA.. Electronic address:

Measuring outcomes of clinical nurse specialist (CNS) practice is essential for demonstrating accountability. Literature is limited with respect to the scope of reported CNS outcomes. The National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists' (NACNS) published listing of CNS outcomes could serve as an outcome measurement framework.
